For the first time, Watership Down will be adapted into a musical! 🎶🎭

Melancholics Anonymous of Minneapolis Minnesota will be putting on their version of Watership Down at this year’s 2026 fringe festival. Directed by Rachel Ropella and Timothy Kelly, it will premiere this August!

Watership Down was adapted previously into a stage play by Rona Munro and John Hildreth respectively. Munro’s had two major productions one by Lyric Hammersmith in 2006 and Watermill Theatre in 2016 (seen above). Hildreth also had two productions: Lifeline theatre in 2011 and Mandell Theatre in 2015. Now, Melancholics Anonymous adapts the novel into a “folk musical” for the very first time.
