Worldās most dangerous bird has bizarre, glowing headgear
Structures on cassowariesā skulls fluoresce under UV light, hinting at a hidden visual signal
Often labeled āthe worldās most dangerous birds,ā cassowaries just got even more intriguing. The aggressive, flightless birds have structures on top of their heads called casques, the purpose of which has long confused scientists. To the human eye, casques look fairly plainābut new research published last month inĀ Scientific ReportsĀ findsĀ this headgear fluoresces under ultraviolet (UV) light, possibly aiding the birdsā visual displays...

Minnesotaās Giant Rainbow and Leather Pride Flags
June 28, 1998. Both flags measured approximately 50 feet wide and 75 feet long.
Friendly reminder that the leather flag predates almost every other flag. We owe this community to leather daddies and kinksters
In the era of corporate sanitization never forget it was leather daddies and S&M folks who protected some of the earliest pride parades.
Some core principles I've been thinking about lately:
There are no ontologically evil people
People generally want to believe they are doing good
Under enough stress, anyone will act irrationally
When someone does something terrible, first try to look back and see "how did we get here"

ever since i was a little girl i knew i wanted to deny location sharing and turn off personalized ads and reject all non-essential cookies and not set up siri and face ID
Yahoooooooooo!!!!
The diversity of problems that different transgender people face kind of boggles the mind, tbh.
Gender and culture and expression of both of those things are so individual and the problems that come with them are also incredibly individual. And people like fight over what problems are worse.
At a certain point I feel like weāre arguing that our cage is worse than our neighborās cage because they get to have a potted plant in there or something. Friend, the potted plant has nothing to do with the cage that youāre stuck in.
Passing, non passing, transfem, transmasc, androgynous, binary, non binary, neogender, fully transitioned, never transition, partially transitioned, stealth, out and proud. So many different situations. So many different problems. We should all be pointing our death lasers at The Man instead of each other though I think. I think that would be a bit more efficient.
i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is āinternationalā pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isnāt our pride, itās theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that āyou owe your rights to Black trans womenā is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) MÄori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa donāt even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we donāt.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. iām truly sorry that most of you donāt see the negative impact your nationās culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and cultureās queer history, donāt accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
I think it's funny world-building how like, so at the center of Life we've got Water. Arguably The most important resource. Colorless transparent substance that molds to any container and we die without it and quickly. And all organic functions of society hinge on its availability. Could fight a ton of wars over this thing.
And well beyond organic life, modern society's great human invention is the Electronic Magic. Our greatest minds invented the Electronic Magic and it sends information around the world instantly. Our infrastructure our economy our modern life, minute by minute by minute, hinges on utilizing the great Lighting Technology.
BUT āļøāļøāļøāļøāļøāļø DO NOT. DO NOT EVER. get the magical Elixir Substance of Life and Living and Healing, Water, IN the Electronic Device. The water keeps you alive critically but it KILLS the Electronic Device instantly and catastrophically. This Says something.
and this Says something...

As Aromantic Visibility Day (June 5th) approaches this year, friendly reminder from an aroace: it's Aromantic Visibility Day, not "Aroace" Visibility Day! Not all aromantics are also asexual ā there are aromantics who are allosexual (aroallos for short), aromantics who don't separately label their sexual orientation at all, and aromantics whose sexual orientation doesn't fit into an ace/allo binary, as well as likely even more aros who don't fit into "aroace" for even more reasons ā and all of them are equally included in Aromantic Visibility Day, because they are equally aromantic! In fact, those aros who aren't ace are disproportionately erased and in need of visibility, even more than aroaces are (which is really saying something, because aroace visibility itself is already terrible), so including them in Aromantic Visibility Day is vital, and using the correct name for the occasion instead of calling it an "aroace day" is a start.
Overall: again, speaking as an aroace myself, we aroaces will not be offended if you just call Aromantic Visibility Day the thing it is actually called! I care about sharing this upcoming day with my fellow aros, so stop excluding them, even accidentally! We aroaces celebrate this day but it is not for us exclusively!

Happy Pride Month!
happy pride month to the fuck tree I guess
ok so
everyone knows about this meme, right?
but does anyone else know the woman who made the food? no? time to educate!
This is āMother Maryā, the owner of Blackberryās mother.
She made all the cakes for the restaurant while it was open. Chef Gordon Ramsay tried her red velvet cake, and spoke this meme-able line:
He then called Mary over, complimented her food, and gave her a peck on the cheek.
Look how happy she was to hear that!!!
anyways, I hope she has been able to continue her love for baking since the restaurant closed down.
For these who donāt know: The restaurant she worked at closed down but she left before that and opened her own bakery, thatās apparently very successful!
Shout out to my mom who explains my transition as "Having a daughterpillar turn into a Boyterfly". It doesn't erase the fact I was an adorable little girl, and also affirms my gender now. I love my mother.

Rule #2
Donāt ever hug a lobster when you see one on the street,
For decorum is essential when a lobster you must greet.
You may comment on the weather, compliment his choice of hat,
But crustaceans like their space if one should stop them for a chat.
Donāt ever hug a lobster when youāre strolling down the coast,
Simply nod and give a greeting, or a handshake at the most,
For a lobsterās first priority is formal social graces,
And one seemes over-familiar if a lobster one embraces.
Donāt ever hug a lobster when you meet one in the sea,
For a lobsterās spines and chitin make it difficult, you see,
And he might become self-conscious if you bring that fact to light,
So donāt ever hug a lobster, simply put, itās impolite.
