Seriously, I feel like an asshole for responding to a poetic email titled "Dreams" with canned remarks like "That's so sweet! Hope you are well, too" and "We were also hoping for a little girl but at this point are happy and grateful to have a healthy child."

a Nazi tattoo used to be an automatic disqualifier for public office. Not in the sense that a candidate couldn't run, but their campaign would be DOA because no serious person would vote for them, and anyone who did was ostracized, and rightfully so, without controversy.

I feel a little bad about not using MIL, but there's no arguing that if I go into labor in the middle of the night it's easier to ask the trusted neighbor who lives 200 feet away than wait for her to drive over from another state. (I'm also glad to be building a support system closer to home because relying on MIL the first time around nearly drove me insane for reasons outside the scope of this post.)
