I've been writing a fanfic for a while but I started rereading moby dick recently and upon rereading my fic u can tell exactly when I did

au where Shane and Ilya live in chicago and share a train stop but are always on opposite sides like in the movie LOL. but they don't know each other and it's just told from their different perspectives noticing one another. like maybe one day there's something crazy happening and they happen to make eye contact across the tracks and share a secret smile of understanding. and Shane is immediately down bad (as is Ilya ofc), so now he’s imagining scenarios where the hot guy from his train stop finally comes to sweep him off his feet. until one day Ilya shows up on Shane's side drunk and begging to fuck him, which isn’t exactly how Shane imagined it going…. but he’s obviously not gonna say no

i just can’t stop thinking about the yearning a fic like this would allow…. especially if they both are out and okay with their sexualities and just let themselves get caught up in the fantasy. and then it comes true!!!! god

my ongoing interlibrary loan woes. i have had a hold on the system's sole borrowable copy of melville's "Battle-Pieces and Aspects of the War", his self-published book of poems and essays about the Civil War for about three weeks. the other copy is, naturally, in library use only in the berkshire athenaeum, my sworn foe/fated true love. i just found out the copy i have on hold is in storage at the library in the town NEXT to me, but that library is chronically understaffed and open like 12:47-2:01 PM on alternate tuesdays AND i'm in mega work cronch time, so i can't go over there and sooo politely ask if someone can go into storage for me. so we LANGUISH. basically i'm in dante's purgatorio nexus

realilzing moments later that i'm being driven to madness by my impossible quest for an obscure item which i KNOW is findable but remains eternally out of my grasp.... how could this be....

update: the entire library is in storage because they're moving into a new location so fuck my stupid baka life i guess!!!!!! I'll never know what melville had to say about john brown!!! (And I do not want to read hundreds of pages of the Project Gutenberg plain text pdf on my phone thanks)
