often the inability to compromise stems directly from a perpetual victim mentality, where others are always viewed as oppressive figures over one’s autonomy and must be defended against. unfortunately this is not sustainable for cultivated and collaborative relationships and many will retaliate harshly when self-concept is challenged. i think this is likely where the weaponization of “boundaries” as a means of control comes from
