the queer subtext isn’t subtle. it’s not hidden in glances or throwaway lines. it’s built into the structure of their relationship, in every decision they make. suho knew beomseok had tampered with his bike. that wasn’t just bullying, it was a premeditated act of violence. he knew what kind of danger he was walking into when he went to the ring, and he went anyway. alone. outnumbered. no illusions. he knew he could die. but he went. because they hurt sieun. because sieun got hurt for him.

that’s their language. not confession, but action. not sentiment, but sacrifice. die for each other. kill for each other.

and sieun, who had always been defined by his discipline, his detachment, his spotless academic record? he lets himself spiral. he got expelled. stopped eating. stopped sleeping. stopped going to cram school. when he found out suho was in critical condition, he froze in the middle of the street and didn’t move, even with a car speeding toward him. as if life without suho wasn’t a life worth returning to.

he came back from a coma asking for suho, looking for him. suho was already in one because of him. they revolve around each other like twin stars caught in gravity’s pull. love doesn’t always look like romance, but that doesn’t make it less real. or less queer.

but as much as he has done shitty things like this and hasnt taken accountability when being rightfully called out, i feel like some of you lot take it too far.

i keep seeing ppl comparing him to pedophiles (false accusations like that DO NOT help at all and are so insensitive) and i keep seeing people saying that he's gonna like go to jail and shit and reacting like that is not gonna help anyone.

Like yes, it is missing A LOT from the animated show, and they've changed a few things around etc.

but at least it's well made, the actors are doing a great job, and I love avatar the last airbender, so of course I'll enjoy this show as well.

then I can rewatch the animated show afterwards

“Just turn your brain off and enjoy it” while NATLA endlessly portrays these scenes as deep while they spoonfeed OOC dialogue from characters that in no way resemble their animated counterparts and are wholly uninteresting on their own.

but fact is, it's NOT the animated show, it's something else and should be enjoyed as something else.

if you hate it that much just don't watch it, watch the OG show because that show is 10000/10.

there's no need to be so hateful because yes, it really ain't that deep. it's a show made for entertainment.

Most of us would like to see a potential reimagining of ATLA that gives more insight into the characters and story. All this one does is simplify and sanitize them to nothing, often changing them in ways that don’t even make sense within the show itself and not even in reference to the original. Then it turns around and acts like these are, in fact, the same characters from the OG and should be treated as such. It can’t both “be its own thing” and then pretend it’s doing anything on the level of the original show. And it’s still an adaptation; it has a duty to at least resemble the original in spirit. If it’s not meant to do that then it should just be a new show with new characters.

but I do think it's unfair to "heavily judge" the people, who enjoy watching it. there's nothing wrong with liking a show that's suppose to be an adaption of another show (even if it doesn't do it complete justice).

if we start heavily judging everyone, we're just becoming more and more hateful, and that is definitely not right.

I love the original ATLA show with all my heart. it was my comfort show growing up, and NATLA does not compare to it at all. But I can also separate the two, even if they bare resemblance. because to me, I'm just happy we get even more atla content. there's things in NATLA that I enjoy more than in ATLA (ex: the way sokka is genuinely traumatized from losing Yue, and we see that throughout all of season 2 instead of just an episode or two in ATLA), and I don't think, we should shame anyone for feeling like this.
