genuinely some of you guys who are still excusing mark claiming “nuance nuance!” is a whole bunch of bullshit. mark is north american and lived in ny for a period of his life. even if he hadn’t been to ny, that flag is known outside of north america. just because YOU don’t know what that flag means doesn’t mean that mark doesn’t.
along with that, mark and upper room pushing out such a lackluster apology that shifts the blame off themselves just pisses me off. he left sm and nct to rid himself of the kpop life he had known for 10+ years just to return with an apology as if it was written by a kpop company, not even putting out an apology from himself on his own time.
as someone who lives in the south, the only times ive seen a confederate flag are in people’s garages because they are afraid of publicly showing support for white supremacy. confederate flags aren’t sold anywhere here unless you are in the DEEP south, so mark wearing that shirt and claiming it as “vintage” isn’t an excuse. even if he really did think it was “vintage and didn’t know what it meant,” he should’ve searched up the flag on his shirt BEFORE wearing it to know what he was repping.
to the asians in the nct community, it is never our place to be accepting these apologies. the blatant excusing and racism ive seen over these years coming from our community genuinely still baffles me.
mark’s first public appearance after leaving nct at the un world environment conference gave me hope into a new chapter into his life, but i was SO wrong. the people that mark is surrounding himself with right now and his manager concerns me. at the end of the day, you truly, truly do not know these people outside of a screen, and i hope that mark honestly takes a break from being in the public light.
