Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Then he comes across a small blue book labeled simply "Buck." Curious, he opens and flips through it.

Kid has eating problems. Will forget to eat when stressed. Feed him, and encourage him to cook, because he likes to taste-test a lot.

Chimney remembers that. Buck mentioning getting so hungry the starving pains go away. He does remember during the shitty times when Buck lost so much weight.

-He fidgets when he's stressed. Have him chop some vegetables or prepare them for you. He loves being helpful.

-He loves his clipboard. Have him organize important events. Give him gold stars. Do not let Hen and Chimney hide it. He gets sad.

-Remind him not to read too close or in the dark. He's gonna need glasses at this point. (If he does, don't let others tease him. Tell him he looks great)

-He doesn't admit it, but his leg still bothers him. Heating blankets are in the closet in the office. Have Eddie massage his leg or send him home early if he's obviously struggling.

the camera looking slightly up to abbot emphasizes the view, not the world below. when we meet him, he’s contemplating his own purpose and can’t remember why he’s doing this job, which would be alarming except for the camera is behind the fence with robby and the roof takes up half the lower frame. we the audience are on safe and solid ground, which assures us that he’s not necessarily looking to jump down. abbot’s not even looking down, he’s simply looking around.

robby on the other hand: it’s nighttime and he’s in complete emotional crisis, for context. we’re looking down at him from his side of the fence and the frame includes both his position and and what’s down below the ledge as if getting us to consider the jump with him. he’s looking down as if it’s a legitimate option, and we the audience are placed on that ledge with him in that precarious spot.

and this us also reflective of their characters because they’re both attendings and the difference between the night/day shift sets them up to be character foils and these parallels reflect that perfectly. jack was never going to do it that morning; he has a therapist, he’s managing better, he loves the job too much to ever leave it (he says it’s in his DNA). robby’s entire arc and point of criticism from others is that he’s not doing that work to take care of himself, he doesn’t practice what he preaches, and when his repressed emotions have finally boiled over and he’s blown his gasket, he genuinely considers ending it.

If you think about it, doctors pretty much only perform an MRI when they expect an abnormality. So they don't have a lot of "regular" brains for data to compare to. Just a few test subjects.

Giving everyone an MRI would result in a plethora of information, not only as a basis for comparison but possibly also displaying the incredible diversity that exists.

-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings

-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)

-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)

-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)

-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same

-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well

-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped

-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt

-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians

-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be

-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia

-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that

-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told

-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions

-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect

-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
