Happy birthday Tove Jansson!
Queer author and artist Tove Jansson was born on 9 August 1914 in Helsinki, Finland. She's best known for creating Moomins - the cute little hippo like creatures in the picture above. Tove first started drawing Moomins in anti-fascist cartoons in the late 1930s when she worked for the magazine Garm - you can see one peering around the side of the 'M'.
Tove went on to incorporate Moomins into 14 children’s books and a long-running comic strip. Many of her characters were based off people in her life, including two of her female partners.

reconstructing the break-up
poison ivy #42 / harley quinn #61 & #63
looks like we're still missing some time between 'i could never be ashamed of you' and 'i've had enough of your explainin'' (and possibly some more preamble, though we seem to now know What Harley Did). also note that harley interprets it as ivy breaking up with her and ivy's version is framed more like harley breaking up with her
(they are very obviously spacing out information drops about the break-up to give us more and more context for why it happened, so it's interesting to look at it in sequence, i think. i hope there's at least one more flashback drop ahead but with bad seeds very close and a week where both poison ivy and harley quinn come out at the same time, which seems significant, we'll see)
get drunk on expired canned beer at your apartment at 3am and confess your deepest regrets to your boss with a mechanical arm whom you may or may not have a crush on, and other things you can do if you get really sad and quit your career to become a bartender in a bar in the middle of nobody, nowhere.

unfortunately very true. Doing Better does not always mean never being upset or never being triggered or never having trouble. often Doing Better means experiencing those things and being able to keep going/cope healthily/move on. if you’re in a bubble with no sensation, if you’re numbing yourself out, that’s not what recovering really is. it won’t help you have a happier life it’ll just make your world smaller and smaller until you can’t fit anywhere anymore. gotta learn to make peace with the hard stuff too, that’s the only way to keep going
Harley Quinn #67 by Elliott Kalan, Carlos Olivares and Marissa Louise. Variant covers by (1) Stjepan Šejić, (2) Terry Dodson & Rachel Dodson, (3) David Nakayama and (4) Derrick Chew. Out in October.
"Hey look! 6-7!!! 6-7!!! 6-7!!! Eh? Ehhhh ???? See, I can be hip! I got layers—I'm nuanced! Speaking of which, it's about time that I have a long overdue heart-to-heart with the love of my life, Poison Ivy. All that's standing between us is a city-sized jungle full of Swamp Thing's prehistoric cousins. Good thing I brought my trusty Harley-machete! Saddle up, buckeroo; I gotta get my Pammy, and you're coming with me!!"

I continue to find this line of thinking absolutely fucking baffling. Harley and Ivy were a revelation to a lot of young (queer) girls when they first featured in an episode of The Animated Series together. We rarely saw one fully-drawn female character in these things, let alone two that seemed to share such an immediate bond.
And 'a male writer fetishizing a WLW pairing'? What does that even mean? Which writer? The hints were there from the second these two met, they just couldn't make them explicit. Harley had all of two speaking appearances before 'Harley & Ivy' happened. Over the years many writers - male and female - iterated on the subtext that was there from the jump and that gets us here.
For decades, DC was scared to lean into it more. The Bruce Timm pin-ups were the most we had - teasing at the possibility, acknowledging the tension was there, but never going all the way. And compared to a lot of other shit that was going on with women in comics in the 90s and early 00s, it was pretty tasteful!
WLW pairings becoming canon wasn't a thing back then. We ate up all the subtext. The day Harlivy became canon was a huge deal - a sign that the winds were shifting and mainstream comics were finally, maybe, slowly becoming comfortable showing queer relationships on the page. The reason it happened was because the subtext had been slipped in so often over the years that eventually someone said 'okay, can we stop hinting and just do it already?'
And yeah, it would've been a less-likely jump if they were both men-- because queer women were considered less threatening, not out of 'respect for men'. Part of that is sexualization, sure - it's easier to slip in a hint or two if you can claim you're pandering to straight men. But people with these opinions don't seem to understand that the alternative at the time wasn't 'respectful depictions of queer women' (read: fully desexualized depictions) - it was no queer women at all.
About sums up the ending of dmc5 ∠( ᐛ 」∠)_
