ESP- Nuestros clientes son nuestra inspiración. Por eso hemos seleccionado cuatro proyectos nacidos en Barcelona que nos inspiran. Hemos tenido el placer de visitar sus espacios de trabajo y así conocerlos más a fondo. Salva López, compañero de estudio y amigo, nos acompañó con su cámara y retrató la presencia de Ölend en esos espacios.
El segundo proyecto que hemos elegido es Owl, donde Alfredo López diseña muebles y objetos en su estudio de Poblenou.
ENG- We are inspired by our clients. This is why we selected four brands born in Barcelona that really inspires us to keep creating. It was such a pleasure to pay a visit to their offices and understanding more in depth their projects. Our beloved studio mate Salva López came along with us and carried his camera to masterly document the meetings.
The second project is Owl, where Alfredo Lopez design original furniture and objects in his Poblenou's studio.
ESP- Conocemos a Alfredo desde hace muchos años, cuando participamos en una Pop Up de diseñadores de Barcelona. Desde hace unos años se instaló en Poblenou, el barrio donde tenemos nuestro estudio. Una zona llena de naves industriales donde los jóvenes proyectos están encontrando un lugar donde crecer. Nos encontramos en los momentos de descanso en el Van Var o paseando a Lia y Pino (nuestras perritas) por el parque y hablamos sobre el trabajo y la vida.
Owl trabaja principalmente con madera combinada con Formica, jugando con formas geométricas y colores para crear un objeto único y atemporal. Además Alfredo forma parte de todo el proceso de creación, no solamente piensa en el diseño sino que también lo lleva a cabo con sus propias manos, con la magia que eso aporta a la pieza.
ENG- We met Alfredo a few years ago, during a pop up store in Barcelona. He recently moved to Poblenou, where we also have our workshop. It is an old industrial district where young projects are finding a place to grow. We use to meet in our breaks in the Van Var or in the park when we take Lia and Pino (our dogs) for a walk and we discuss about work and life.
Owl works mostly with wood and Formica, playing with geometric forms and colors to create a unique and timeless object. Furthermore, Alfredo leads all the whole process, from the design to the execution of the idea, all together with the magic of a handmade piece.
ESP- ¿Cual fue tu primer mueble? Qué te movió a hacerlo? El primer mueble que diseñé y construí fue una estantería para libros. En ese momento salía con una chica que leía mucho y tenía muchísimos libros. Le hice un regalo de cumpleaños un poco egoísta, porque no podía soportar que todos sus libros estuvieran en el suelo. ¿Cual es tu madera favorita? Por qué? No tengo un tipo de madera favorita. Todas ellas tienen sus propias cualidades, rasgos y tonos, y me gusta respetarlos. ENG- What was your first piece of furniture? What moved you to do it? The first piece of furniture that I designed and built was a free standing bookshelf. I was dating someone at the time who read a lot and had loads of books. The birthday gift was slightly selfish as well, because I couldn't stand all of her books everywhere on the floor.
What is your favorite wood? Why? I don't really have a favorite type of wood. They all have their own qualities, traits, and tones which I love to respect.
ESP- ¿Prefieres trabajar con colecciones o crear piezas personalizadas? Siempre combino estas dos maneras de trabajar. Ambas me encantan, pero cuando me dedico a una, mi instinto prefiere inclinarse hacia la otra. Supongo que “la hierba es siempre más verde al otro lado de la valla”.
¿Cuál crees que es la relación entre Owl y la ciudad de Barcelona?Mudarme aquí cambió definitivamente mi dirección creativa. Los paisajes, la cultura, la arquitectura y el estilo de vida siempre afecta de una manera muy directa al trabajo. Al final Owl nació aquí y, por lo tanto, está impregnado de todo eso.
ENG- Do you prefer to work with collections or create custom pieces? I always dance between these two ideas. Both are great, but I suppose when I start doing more of one type I'd rather do the other. I guess “the grass is always greener”. What is the relation between Owl and the city of Barcelona? Moving here definitely changed my creative direction. Landscapes, culture, architecture, and lifestyle always affects you in a pretty direct way. At the end of the day Owl was created here, and so those characteristics show I think.
