If you had complete creative freedom to write the Arcane spin-off show focused on Caitlyn and Vi with Fortiche’s animation, what story would you tell? What would the central premise be, who would serve as the main villain, and what themes or conflicts would you want to explore? Finally, would you start with Caitlyn and Vi as an established couple, or would you continue exploring the uncertainty and tension between them? Would you draw inspiration from their league iteration?
Ooooh, okay. My #1 dream sequel is a crime procedural, 100%. Something along the lines of Gotham Central with Cait and Vi being basically the common thread to introducing a couple other P/Z champs as they pick through cases, interspersed with ‘normal’ crimesolving.
Camille and Renata would be good as central/growing in the background ‘villains’ for establishing the corruption/evil roots still growing in the foundations. Ferros can take over Hextech research to justify why it still exists and Renata filling the vacuum Caitlyn created when she took out SIilco’s buddies. Urgot via Child of Zaun reference makes sense but I think ‘hinting’ at champs establishing themselves would be more fun and he would have to come later. Cameo Ekko (or even an Ekko orientated episode) to show Zaun pov and maybe a bit of friction on viewpoints (maybe unpopular opinion but I quite like the idea of Ekko being frosty with Caitlyn and Vi, on the basis of ‘you did what you have to do but I don’t have to like it’. He’s 19, he’s allowed to be rash and hold strong opinions.) and through him you could cameo Zeri, whatever they need to do to fix Blitzcrank since they hinted he and Ekko might have a history now that Viktor can’t have been the one that made him. Might be too early for Seraphine but maybe a cameo of ‘hey this girl is gonna become’. Maybe Ezreal for a fun heist ep I love him so much. Twitch would be hilarious.
Could do other champs too, since Piltover is a ‘travel hub’.
For Caitvi? I would elevator pitch it taking place maybe a year after they’ve recovered from the war. Maybe their relationship itself is still solid but going through a fragile state as they try to better establish what exactly they’re going to do with the rest of their life. Their relationship with each other is great and serves to anchor them, but their relationship with themselves is shaky and disjointed. The end of the war left them in recovery, but while we as an audience know how they end up the characters themselves are adrift.
Say, we rejoin them with Vi’s moved out to try and scrounge some independence because Caitlyn’s house is just too big, too rich, and she feels completely lost in upper Piltie society. She’s living not in survival mode for the first time ever and it’s fucking her up. Maybe she acts more like League Vi - loud, violent, comedic and unserious - as a way to deflect the demons, maybe she still has a bit of a drinking problem. Meanwhile Caitlyn is trying to balance her flawed need to be the one to fix everything with her slightly fucked up legacy now and bureaucracy’s being her biggest enemy from trying to fix shit. Most of her conflict would be that despite all her power she’s still functionally very powerless in the face of corrupt politics. Have her butt heads with Sevika a lot only so we have an excuse to have Sevika and Caitlyn on screen together (this is completely selfish I want them to fight forever)
Ahem, so at some point Cait still becomes Sheriff, working along Vi, so it’d be a fun way to explore how they get there. Maybe they repeat old mistakes lmao with independently try to solve a crime Caitlyn’s been black walled from solving on ‘official’ channels and decide to keep doing it and by the end regain so much trust Caitlyn is nominated sheriff by popular demand. Maybe Caitlyn rejoins the Enforcers, but is granted higher authority due to her history and takes on heavier cases for it. Or she keeps being directed to the ‘harder’ stuff to try and discourage her (maybe the current sheriff is in Camille’s pocket).
Maybe we forgo the enforcers altogether and make Caitlyn some sort of dykey Benoit Blanc, (ab)using her resources to solve crimes amongst her upper class peers that snowballs into her getting back into the Undercity and she’s too rich for the proper enforcers to stop her.
And I’m still a big fan of the idea that Vi works as an independent alongside Caitlyn, but is scornfully called ‘the Piltover enforcer’ as a snipe at her being a ‘traitor’. I think that would be a good conflict for her; she loves Caitlyn so much but being with Caitlyn is turning Vi into the sort of privileged topsider she grew up hating. Also throw in a few good conflicts of Vi and Cait butting heads about Cait not realizing a ‘simple’ policy trickles down a lot of bullshit to people growing up like Vi.
But over the course of the show they finally figure out exactly what they want to do, who they want to be, and they set themselves to it, while working together as dope battle wives punching and shooting shit rule-of-cool style.
And then, like, tease ‘C’ at the very end of the last episode of the series before cancelling it, like a cheeky fucker.
