iāll be honest i still fan girl over my own mutuals
there are some people on here who, when they followed me back, I got excited about as if they were a celebrity. and when I think about it, it's kinda sweet how we do that here, and so much more special than celebrity crushes. To be starstruck by someone when they're sharing their personal, more private self. You're famous to me for just being you.
anyone got any hcs about human biological things spock has got going on
First one is that I think Spock dreams/has nightmares more than other Vulcans. In the book Killing Time itās revealed that Vulcans donāt usually dream, but I think Spock does.
I also think he sunburns. With Vulcan as a desert planet Iād think sunburn probably evolved to not happen at all, or at least that Vulcans donāt burn easily. But Amanda is super fair skinned, and at half fair skinned human Iād think Spock can burn pretty bad, if not as quickly as a full human. This is also inspired by that gorgeous Georgiedoodles post (https://www.tumblr.com/oikaoi/805310751089803265)

okay so re: spock's "the fact that one of my ancestors married a human female" quote in where no man has gone before.....like obviously the most likely situation is they hadn't decided his mom was human when they wrote that, but taking it seriously in-universe, if spock was actually hiding the fact that his mom is human, mccoy would still absolutely have to know.
like at the very least his medical history would show that, but also he'd just need to know re: spock's health overall, and now I'm losing it at mccoy looking through his charts, getting acquainted with the new ship and patients, and then immediately hearing spock being an absolute bitch about humanity, and then realizing that no one!!!! knows!!!! that spock's mom is human!!!!
"didn't his great grandpa marry a human or something??" some ensigns are gossiping in the mess, and mccoy is banging his head against the wall. medical confidentiality being what it is, of course mccoy is keeping spock's secret, but oh boy is he irritated at the situation!!!
spock, his eyes gleaming in amusement at mccoy's ill-hidden irritation, talking shit about how human mothers are known to coddle their young, knowing mccoy can't say a damn word....... post journey to babel mccoy is ready to unload MONTHS of snarky comments now that everyone knows!!!! except he can't, because spock immediately switches tack entirely and takes on the guise of a good son defending his mama.
mccoy IS gonna kill him btw.
bonus points tho if spock and kirk eventually meet mccoy's mom and spock sucks up sooooooooo bad determined to make this woman he KNOWS mccoy's complained about him to like him........extra funny if she DOES love him but doesn't admit to it (mccoy comes by his nature honestly!!!) and instead dotes on kirk, and spock SULKS and SULKS until she probably does something devastating on the last day like give spock something of mccoy's dad's because she thinks he'd want spock to have it....spock looks at mccoy, and mccoy just nods with a smile, and spock is genuinely touched and speechless and struggling with all his might not to show it lmao
Iām always soft for the idea that Sarek likes McCoy for Spock, but obviously he wonāt show it either. So now Iām just picturing a two family dinner at some restaurant, and everyone in the restaurant thinks āwow this looks so tense and uncomfortableā because McCoy and Spock are being weird to each other, and Sarek is Stone faced, and Mama McCoy keeps poking at Spock, but in fact everyone at the table is having a fantastic time. They leave the restaurant and are immediately like āletās do this againā
You could totally throw in Jim and Amanda at one end having a nice normal conversation, just to add some contrast to the chaos too.

Let's be honest, this episode was really starring Worf.
Why had he never appreciated what a miracle he was, brain and nerve and bounding heart?
spreading my daforge agenda. theyve known each other for 2 seconds btw
You can be certain that the funeral was not a sad occasion: one touched with the grief of loss, of course, but the joy of having known so fine a man as this. Certainly, his passing contributed to my decision to go to Romulus. There was nothing now to keep me from taking my leave, and of all of us, I considered him least likely to come back from the dead. The devil would surely not wish to part with such good company.

The making of Alien art book pictures (pt 1)
Imagine being so visually perfect for a role, that you kind of set the bar for future alien/non-human characters in terms of creating a cohesive look that may or may not generate a huge fanbase that is also absolutely smitten by this non-human character.
To me, one of the funniest and most interesting things about the look of Spock is that he's so quintessentially 60s in his look.
Specifically, he's so incredibly Mod!
To the point it explains nearly everything about why he looks the way he does. Because if it ain't Mod then it's basic geometric design principles.
The Mods, or Modernists, were a British music based subculture of the 1960s with a heavy interest in jazz, poetry, and fashion. Which are interests Spock is even shown to have in the series.
In Charlie X he's shown to have a spontaneous jam session with Uhura, which is a key component of jazz.
In Catspaw he's shown to have an interest in and opinions on poetry.
In terms of his physical appearance, it's also extremely mod! Just look at his hair and compare it to The Beatles (the biggest band of the decade)
His eyebrows, makeup, and eye shape were also very influenced by 60s ideals. With bold blue eyeshadow, thin eyebrows, and downturned puppy dog eyes being extremely popular in specifically women's fashion.
Just look at Twiggy, the most popular model of the decade! I also added a makeup diagram from a magazine to further show it
Beyond Mod aesthetics, a lot of Spock's alien look can be broken down to basic design principles around geometry and symmetry. Which are details that can easily go unnoticed if you aren't keeping an eye out. I didn't notice until I started drawing and painting Spock.
In particular, the curve of his eyebrows mirror the natural curve of Nimoy's hooded eyes, which makes it feel very visually natural for the character.
Additionally, the angle of Spock's eyebrow, the curve of his ear, and the cut of his hair are BRILLIANT in how complimentary they are. The eyebrow flows to the corner of his haircut, the ear creates a beautiful arc leading into the angle his bangs are cut. (It's so well balanced that I have a headcanon that Vulcan art and beauty value the face in profile rather than straight forward, but that's a whole other discussion)
It doesn't feel like prop makeup when it's so visually cohesive for the face!!!
Here's some poorly drawn diagrams to show my point
Overall, I think one of the most interesting aspects about the design of Spock is the sense of androgyny he encapsulates when capturing 60s fashion ideals. While undoubtedly masculine (and with a popular men's haircut), his makeup, styling, and body type better reflect the fashion ideals of Mod women in the era.
I think this androgyny is part of why he's a sex symbol of sorts. Women have historically shown an interest in men that escape the bounds of what is considered traditionally masculine for their era. After all, if a man is shown to positively embrace characteristics associated with the feminine, then he's hopefully less misogynistic than his peers.
Finally, I just wanted to acknowledge the model Patti Moffit, because I don't think there's another person who can better show the incredibly 60s aesthetic of Spock more than she can
Because at the end of the day Star Trek will first and foremost always be a show about the 60s
should I get a masters or jump into a river and swim away forever. vote now

My star trek tos take is that if you are a reaaalll big fan of spock and you absolutely HATE bones because he's "mean" to spock. you fundamentally don't understand spock as a character
Yeah you put your Katra inside him did you? And what else did you put inside him? Did you make sure it felt good for him too?
