I wrote. Not a whole story, not even a whole scene, but after over a year of not being able to write anything, I got 700+ words down of a Sullivan/reader fake dating fic.
As odd as it may sound, it's entirely due to talking to my partner about it and him hyping me up and being in awe of my complete lack of a writing process. ("You mean you just... write??")
I hope y'all find your own super supportive partners because damn, this man has been by my side through a year of seemingly unending medical tests, 3 years of mental health crap, and absolutely nothing phases him. And he'll never know I'm praising him here hehe

That is such a great question... I have no good answer for it.
I haven't written anything in about 2+ years, unfortunately, although I have been meaning to get back into it. Adding to that, I am quite far behind on Father Brown. So, possibly, I'm not ruling it out entirely, but if I were to do so, it wouldn't be up to date with what's going on in the show.
Sorry this is an unconclusive answer, but all it's all I've got at the moment, that and an 'I hope so', because even though it's been years since I've watched the show, I still love that surly detective.

one of my favorite things about fanfiction is how many writers don’t necessarily consider themselves fans of the original work. lots of writers just saw the movie or read the book and were like “that was unsatisfying but now I have yet another canon to fuck around with”
Some times fanfiction is a love letter to canon. Some times fanfiction is just a friendly banter with the canon. And sometimes, fanfiction is “11 things the canon did wrong” nailed on the church’s doors.
The amount of effort ficwriter does in order to write a fic. "nah the story doesn't need to be that accurate it's just a fic I'm not getting any money out of it" and then as they keep writing and posting their browse history is something like "moon calendar in 1981"
Writing is not about 'telling an epic story' or 'making something that will outlive you'. Writing is about going "You know what would be fucking awesome?" and then committing word crimes
