She’s a cool lady and I hope more people get interested in the LoC and it’s holdings. They have a lot online and you don’t need to make an account to look.

I mean... yes. And it blows my mind as a flautist that that isn’t obvious to all listeners. I mean, just the speed of the last section alone should tell you that. But a little ~insider knowledge~ on this instrument: changing octaves on the flute (ie jumping from very low to very high) is less about finger positions and more about ombrochure, AKA what your mouth is doing. (Most of) the fingerings do change, but unless you also change the angle of airflow and the tightness of your lips, the sound isn’t going anywhere. When you go up steadily, like in a scale, you get there pretty smoothly and it’s not hard. But two octave jumps remain a pain in the ass. So to play that fast, with frequent two octave leaps, not only hitting all the notes but also staying in tune on every note AND maintaining a beautiful quality of sound takes SKILL. That short clip is all I need to know that Lizzo is a phenomenal flautist.
