Calm Morning by kenpapa
I have the privilege of having access to the Atlantic Ocean, which has such a strong essence of Njordr. Not only historically but just like...vibe. It is always cold, even in the warmest months. It is dark, and rough, and filled with so many old things. It can be harsh to swim in, harsh to be on a boat in. But it is so pretty, and giving, and it has this very greenish-gray color to it when the sun shines on it just right. When I think of Njordr in the modern sense, I picture him much like the New England fishermen I live around. Intimidating in a way, but masters of their craft, and leaning towards tradition in a subtle way. Cold, misty towns. coastal towns Early mornings on the dock. Well kept boats. Cold, clay-like sand that molds to your feet as you walk on the shoreline. The feeling of salt in your nose. High tides that crash against the manmade barriers, and low tides that allow for the people to retreat into the cool water on a hot day. Tide pools filled with children looking for treasure. Birds overhead. The feeling of fish swimming around your ankles. It's an encompassing sort of peace in the face of ancient chaos.

"Wife of Njörðr, woman of cold. She the wanderer of woods; the huntress in the snow. The winter's moon calls to her, with the wolves that follow her. With her bow and arrow, she aims ahead on a stag with no place to roam."
one must imagine njordr playing with his young twins at the beach

One of my favorite parts of working with Freyja is getting to witness her constant shifting between different aspects. She's a goddess of plenty. She's a goddess of the dead. She's the fertility of the earth and the bounty of the harvest. She's vengeance. She's a goddess of womanhood. She's a goddess of sexual "deviancy." She's the glitter of gold and gems. She's the Seeress prophesying doom. She's all of these things at once, and I love witnessing her vastness.
In the Kingdom of Frost by Alexander Cherkasov
Prose for Freyr
Rain is giving by your will, and poured with your blessing, golden King, from the meadows of Yggdrasil, where among the hidden people, you were enthroned.
Burn at the deepest reaches of the earth, along the webs of roots, under every flower. Draw life from decay, blooms from the ice, music from the hours of dawn, unspoken and true.
Trees and rushing rivers, in their might, flow with your pulse like blood. Glorious peace, by your grace, is bestowed upon grief-stricken souls, the gift of harmony beyond conflicts and strife.
Daily trials cloud the mind like fog, in the endless cycle of resting and waking, the tidal force of doubt where your hand reaches, to grasp mine and leave your mark.
Hope, the world’s undying truth, goes to dust with each sunset, and with each sunrise, is reborn again. Hear me, King of Kings, fragrant and luminous, ruling from the high seat of golden Álfheimr:
I thank you for your countless gifts, the welcome rain and sun, the moments of perfect bliss, which you give freely. I praise you for your loving presence, your grounding power, your steady guidance.
Hail to the Son on of the sea, the Brother of Freyja, the God of the World. Hail to the boar-rider, the joy-giver, the bestower of wealth-gifts and peace.
discussion for the cosmology nerds (like myself); By most accounts, we consider Ymir the first being. He is what all (on Midgard and possibly Asgard, or more) comes from. At what point does the Yggdrasil factor in? It is the place in which all things are connected, and there is an implication that it is Alive, given that being chewed on by dragons may or may not kill it. It is a big, universal tree, yes. But it is...a tree. So, alive? Was it thrust into being when Muspelheim and Niflheim collided (my theory). And so it is one of three beings that were created from that clash, including a most beloved Cow...
Follow up discussion: when did the Norns come to inhabit the tree? If they weave fate, were they the ones to decide the fate of Ymir? Once there were living things, they surely must have come into commission?
He gives victory to some, and to some wealth, eloquence to many, and innate sense to the living — Ingvi.

Freyja and Freyr come to me as two sides of the same coin. In the same way that Freyr is Lord of the Elves, Freyja is Lady of the Valkyries. Fertility and Sovereignty is a given with them, but I also sense it in the same way, a congruency—a twin thing. Keepers of Ancestors. Perhaps it's more of a stretch to some, but I also feel that Freyr has to do with magic as well. Maybe not Seidr—or maybe it is?—but he has some sort of connection to it, maybe in the way that it relates to being Vanir, or simply by virtue of being the brother of Freyja. Freyr has some ties to it, more obscure, maybe more grounded in the Earth itself, given his associations with burials and land ownership. Magic in relation to the dead? Ancestor veneration? To be found out later maybe...Both also have connections to love, sex, reproduction. Immigrants in a foreign land. A father with deep connections to the water, the ocean, and a mother with deep connections to the Earth. They are as much Gods of Nature as they are Gods of Society. So, as it comes to me like any other intuitive thing, when I worship one, I worship the other. I think it is an inherent thing.
this is exactly how certain spirits feel to me — not fully person, not fully landscape, but something in between.
the kind of presence you would meet at the edge of the woods, half-grown from light and moss, carrying a branch like a staff and saying absolutely nothing because it doesn’t need to.
some beings are not here to be understood. just respected.
Falcvanger’s towers claim my song, These to Freyja’s right belong; Who chief presiding at each feast, Appoints his place to ev’ry guest: Half of the slain by her’s possest, But Odin daily claims the rest.

“Odin was the most prominent among them, and from him they learned all the skills, because he was the first to know them. Now as to why he was honoured so greatly—the reasons for that are these: he was so handsome and noble to look at that when he sat among his friends it gladdened the hearts of all. But when he was engaged in warfare he showed his enemies a grim aspect.. He spoke so well and so smoothly that all who heard him believed all he said was true. All he spoke was in rhymes, as is what is now called the art of poetry, he and his temple-priests were called verse-smiths.. Odin was able to cause his enemies in battle to be blind or deaf or terror-struck, and he could cause their swords to cut no better than a willow wand. His own men went to battle without armour and acted like mad dogs or wolves. They bit into their shields and were as strong as bulls or bears. They killed men, and neither fire nor iron harmed them. This madness is called berserker fury.. Odin had with him Mimir’s head, which told him many tidings from other worlds; and at times he would call to life dead men out of the ground, or he would sit down under men that were hanged. On this account he was called Lord of the Undead or of the Hanged. He had two ravens on whom he had bestowed the gift of speech. They flew far and wide over the lands and told him many tidings. By these means he became very wise in lore. And all these skills he taught with those runes and songs which are called magic songs [charms].”
