we need a decoy for malevola for this mission
(i used a magik cover for reference )
This rewatch of the first episode made me really focus on August and Erik, and it's actually so obvious how much of an impact Erik had on August when they were both at Hillerska. August is trying so hard to become someone he thinks Erik would approve of. We can really see that his number one priority as soon as Wilhelm arrives is to become to him what Erik was to himself. (With some adjustments, if we take into account what we learn in season 3)
Showing Erik that he also has a 1st year who he took under his wing. He's trying so hard to be Erik.
August wants to be part of something, of a family, so badly. Look at him acting with Wilhelm as if he is his own little brother. His friendship with Nils and Vincent is also a big thing: he wants a family, he wants to belong.
And approval from Erik is essential because he's at the top of this little 'family'. He's the oldest one, the Crown Prince.
Look at him trying so hard to get it. And Erik's reaction? Yeah, he approves.
(Lil' follow up to my 'random thoughts about s1e1' post ^^)
why did they have to get MALTE GÅRDINGER (the hottest man alive) to play the evilest (and most misunderstood) character in young royals. he’s got me saying ‘I can fix him’ and that’s a problem
Continuing my slow rewatch of season 1 and reminded how much I love the ways Young Royals doubles things, but always at a little bit of a slant.
Some stand out – Wille affirming "I want to be with you" in 1.6 before he goes to make the denial statement; Simon admitting to Wille "I want to be with you," even if it's furtive, in 2.6; echoed by Wille in 3.6 saying "I want to be with you, Simon," but now finally fully out in the open, free.
On this watch I noticed Simon lashing out at Micke with "You couldn't even quit for mine and Sara's sakes" in 1.4, and how that's called back in 3.6 with Wille's pivotal "No, I did it for my own sake."
I certainly don't think the show is absolving Micke, but it is interesting to think about the significance of what it means to do something for the sake of other people – even (or especially) people you love – in contrast to doing it because it's what you yourself need.
I fucking love this show, no surprise there. 💜 that's all.

Simon never attended Marieberg, right?
Please tell me if I’m mistaken.
I was talking to someone else about this the other day, but… am I right about Simon never having attended Marieberg? I was talking to someone about this the other day, and I’ve been sure of it for a long time, but now I want to make sure I’m sure of it.
I always assume that Marieberg, like Hillerska, is supposed to be a gymnasium that covers the equivalent of years 10-12? Obviously one with a very different vibe. They mention Marcus being a third year at Marieberg, which sounds like it lines up with where August, Vincent, and Nils are grade-wise. I assume that means that, had Simon gone to Marieberg instead of Hillerska, he would still be in his first year. With that in mind, I always figured Simon was at a separate local högstadium (years 7-9) before coming to Hillerska.
The show explains that Sara attended Marieberg for a year but stopped showing up to class due to bullying, and that she’s repeating her first year at Hillerska because she failed out the first time due to lack of attendance. She’s the one who’s done gymnasium at Marieberg—Simon hasn’t. I assumed that means they’d have been in separate school buildings, which means that Simon wouldn’t have been there in person to witness Sara getting bullied. In the year before canon begins, Sara’s at the very beginning of a brand new school environment, trying to figure out the brand new social environment of gymnasium, while Simon’s confidently finishing his final year at högstadium, where he’s been for the last few years and where he knows how everything works. Hillerska throws a bit of a wrench into the works—Sara has to deal with the potential humiliation of being in the same school year as her little brother, and Simon’s at a new place without his closest friends, in theory to look after her. Both of them are also working class kids in a very posh place with very different social norms, but they’re also coming from different school situations beforehand.
Also: This would explain why Simon and Marcus haven’t like, interacted very much prior to season 2. They’re both local and their mothers are friends/acquaintances, it sounds like, but if they’re attending schools in different buildings even before Simon goes to Hillerska, they’re probably not going to be seeing one another or interacting much.
Also also: I assumed that part of what’s going on with Simon and Ayub and Rosh is that Ayub and Rosh have assumed Simon would be attending school with them their whole school career. They would have started Marieberg together, and they probably also imagined they’d one day do studenten traditions together as Marieberg students. To me, this hits harder and different than Simon just having left a school they were already attending—instead it’s like, oh, we were going to start this next teenage right-of-passage together, all for one and one for all, but now we’re not. And now Simon’s off to this other school and getting involved in, gasp, weird posh boy sports like rowing, and talking about how he needs to get out of Bjärstad. I know more recent fandom discussions have trended toward “here’s how Rosh and Ayub aren’t showing up for Simon” but given the context of their ages and how they’re all starting to think about the future differently and how that is manifested as different physical spaces, it makes sense that there’d be a disconnect between the three of them.
I could, however, be assuming wrong! Maybe Marieberg is a högstadium and a gymnasium in the same building, under one name? Maybe Simon and Sara would have seen one another a lot more during the school day than I thought, in the year prior to canon? Or something like that? It will be less fun for me if that’s true, but I will adjust.
The clone meme: Young Royals edition
thinking about her
Thinking about how she’s so integral to the fabric of this show. How she’s more than a side character or a subplot or skippable. How her arc is a countermelody: romantic love may not conquer all but all kinds of love matter in the end. How she’s navigating the twists and turns of youth and learning to set boundaries and jumping into new situations for the first time. How she discovers forgiveness and freedom. How she’s funny and cute and she’s disability representation and she’s the flawed female character we’re all clamoring for and she probably needs a hug.
Sara Eriksson. The person you are. The main character you are. You deserve so much more. I miss you.
Obsessed with the Young Royals finale.
Obsessed with Simon, Sara, Wilhelm and Felice driving away from a shutdown Hillerska, free from a system which was never going to accept them, happy and together.
Obsessed with how there’s still a chance Hillerska could reopen because that system is next to impossible to take down and the upper-class rarely face real consequences for their actions.
Obsessed with August’s face when he saw Wilhelm walking away, realising that he was trapped. Wilhelm said August was the heir they needed but he couldn’t have been more wrong - that man has bucket loads of trauma, an eating disorder he isn’t even close to ready to confront and no support system around him, he’s not gonna do much better with the role of Crown Prince than Wilhelm did.
Obsessed with Nils coming out to his friends and them easily accepting him, because their issue with Simon really was the fact that he was poor and a socialist, and Nils both still believes in the system he’s in and his queerness doesn’t destabilise the system the same way Wilhelm’s does.
Obsessed with Stella ending up with Fredrika, because although Rosh might have been fun to hang out with for a night Stella also still believes in and upholds the system she belongs to and Rosh was never going to fit in that system or uphold the traditional feminine values needed to survive in it.
Obsessed with how the monarchy is portrayed as unchangeable and impossible to modernise because it’s built on such outdated ideals.
Obsessed with the mix of both happy and open-ended endings.
I just adore it so much
Headcanon whatnot got me acting like I work at STYX (+ additional doodles)

Read a really good book once where at one point the guy's like "what he lied to you so every guy is a liar?" And it's just like.
Dude.
Buddy.
Idiot.
YOU MET HER WHILE UNDERCOVER FOR THE FBI AND DELIBERATLY GOT CLOSE TO HER FOR INFO.
Out of context the line has a point but in context I want to shake the idiot till some sense shakes lose from his brain. He spends a significant chunk of the book lying about something please dude recognize this!
Plant Hybrid!Robert Robertson
Robbie wanted a kid, but didn't want the hassle of getting married, so he sought out alternative ways to get his heir. Whether through a witch or a certain river in China; Robbie got his wish.
However, his kid came out a little... leafy.
Turns out babies made with nature magic tend to take on the traits of native plant life.
In Robert's case; the hardy Hibiscus syriacus - Korean Rose/Rose of Sharon, also known as mugunghwa (무궁화) in it's home country. In Korean art, it's often depicted flanked by phoenixes.
Robert looks mostly human, despite his literal green thumbs. His skin has a very light green tinge to it, that's more pronounced on extremities like his fingers and ears. He's comparable to a dryad of Hellenic mythology, or a plant spirit from East Askan mythos.
Also throughout Summertime - Robert sprouts Hibiscus flowers in his hair. It requires frequent pruning.
Robert may have untapped nature/plant powers, as he has always focused on what he can do as a "normie" with technology.
(Imagery of the Mech Suit being held together by Robert's branches and vines - him literally putting his body and soul into his work.)
The fight with Flambae is much more tense for Robert in this scenario, as he's much more sensitive to heat.
Z-Team are quick to tease obvs. Their new dispatcher is a guy with literal flowers growing out of his body (Example: "How many of your own sticks are up your ass right now?"). Golem thinks it's super pretty though, and tries to bond with Robert as a fellow nature/earth spirit.
Shipping wise, my brain immediately goes to Watermech and/or Mechabat for two major reasons;
Plant + Water = Waterboy finding a man who unironically appriciates his power/condition. (Plus I love Robert having a kink for drinking Waterboy's water)
Bats + Plants = Deep Tonguing. Ever see a video of a Bat drinking nectar? Thats Sonar/Plant!Robert. >:3
Thoughts?
I will do you one better WaterMechaBat!
Waterboy canonically chose to learn about bats in college and thinks they’re cool.
Victor has enough money and hands for two twinks!
And finally plants need water yes. But they also need to be pollinated, Which some bats pollinate just like bees.
Herman is in heaven, having two bfs that encompass his special interests; plants and bats. <3
Robert is healthy and thriving with a bf thats a steady supply of clean water, and one kisses him dry of the nectar and pollen he produces.
Victor has two twinks, two hands, and a big bed. Life is good.
Example of what a pollinating bat be doing to a flower;
Mal: "Have a fun time last night?"
Sonar, damp and covered in pollen: "Why do you ask?" :3
This is the flower by the way if anyone wanted to know. Also imagine Plant Robert getting pregnant.
I forgot to add an image of the flower - my bad. XD
As for Plant Robert getting pregnant? It's probably an awkward process.
Flowers are technically the sexual organs of the plant - so Robert's downstairs look a little more "botanical" than a typical human. (Phenomaman learns this, and is very curious!)
Robert can immediately tell that "something" is off about his body, as he can feel something forming in his womb. When Hibiscus flowers are fertilized, they dehydrate/wither to form a fruity pod for the seeds. Robert suddenly feels dryer than the Sahara downstairs, and does not like it. >:(
The news that he's having a bundle of little Roberts hits him like a ton of bricks.
Especially if he's romantically involved with multiple people - and therefore has multiple bady daddies to consider. XD
Victor and Herman are more than happy to take responsibility, probably together and Robert doesn’t have a choice in the matter.
Victor's little sprouts come out with traits of bat and night-blooming flowers. :3
Herman's are water plants like water lilies and lotuses. <3

Like a wolf howling at a full moon
Wolf Hybrid Robert going to the doctor for an ultrasound after a positive pregnancy test. Congrats! It's a litter! (Quadruplets) Thankfully, the different colored fur/hair makes them easy to tell apart.
Prev ref.
Robert... is not having a good time.
The pregnancy tests had been shocking enough. He'd done multiple of differing brands just to rule out false positives.
The ultrasound had left him speechless.
There was more than one blob on the sonogram. There were multiple.
When he'd been a teen, his father had warned him of such a possibility; that those with hybrid genetics were more likely to have multiple births. Robbie Robertson had ended his mortifying "facts of life" lecture with the relief that Robert had been born a rare singleton.
Robert had expressed such little hybrid traits throughout his life, that he assumed he'd been in the clear.
Then a few weeks ago, his nails had replaced themselves with wolfish claws.
The pregnancy tests had been the last resort after thorough rounds of medical, magical, and scientific speculation.
Apparently hormonal changes, like those brought on by pregnancy, can cause a sudden redevelopment of non-human traits in those with hybrid genes hiding in their DNA.
In the Robert's case; a Wolf.
His body was changing on him in two different ways, and he wasn't sure how to feel about either.
He tells his partner the (debatably) good news. They seem happy enough at the prospect of a baby or two, but not so understanding of Robert's other physiological changes.
The day Robert's ears began taking on a lupine shape, his partner had become concerningly quiet.
Robert soon returned to their shared apartment empty of everything except his fat little dog.
A note left on the counter read; "This isn't how I imagined things going."
Attempts to call, text, or email his partner was met with resounding silence. It was as if they had erased themselves from Robert's life.
If Robert's mental health was already on a tight precipice after his partner's disappearance, then Shroud's notorious escape from prison had been the jumping-off point.
If he'd been a better state of mind, he would have seen the Steel Works for the ambush it was. But all he could think about was making sure his father's killer could not pose a threat to his future children.
When the Mecha Man suit exploded, a different part of Robert's instincts took over when the rational mind fell asleep.
The doctors and nurses tending to him and his babies throughout the coma recorded concerning physical changes. Increased body hair growth, replacement of adult teeth with sharper new ones, and the development of a long bushy tail, to name the most obvious.
These changes were not limited to Robert himself - the pups in his womb were too, changing to fit their parent.
By the time Robert Robertson finally reawakened; he resembled less the Mech Hero and more a great Dire Wolf of old.
Soon after this awakening; Robert promptly escaped the hospital into the rolling hills of lower Los Angeles.
A capture warrant was immediately put out to all hero agencies in the state regarding a loose giant wolf.
Meanwhile, at SDN Torrance; the Z-Team, working overtime to make up for scaring off yet another dispatcher, were assigned to the very case.
And who better to find a giant fiercesome beast than another?
Sonar had been glad to stretch his wings against the night breeze. It wasn't often that the task specifically called for him to transform into his Megabat form - but the tracking of a feral wolf-hybrid suited his skill set well.
He could certainly smell a doggy scent around the foothills, but his echolocation was broken by all the shrubs and low-lying plant life.
So, ignoring a blaring alarm in the back of his primal brain, Sonar touched down to get his bearings.
Within seconds, he was pinned to the ground by a massive dark-red wolf.
He was about to fight back, claw and bite and screech his way free, when he caught sight of the dire wolf's stomach.
Large, and hanging with pronounced teats.
"Ohhh..." his rational brain surmised. Pregnancy hormones have to be a bitch for a hybrid with emotion-based transformations.
Thinking quick, less the wolf see him as a threat (or worse, a meal), the Megabat turns his head to expose his neck. Visibly submitting to the wolf's power over him.
The dire wolf stops growling, looking down at the giant bat with curious dark eyes. They ease a paw off of Sonar's chest, but keep poised over him for sudden movement.
With great mental energy; Sonar begins reverting back to his hybrid form. The Megabat shrinking down to a mostly-naked 5'9ft manbat.
The dire wolf watches this transformation with apt fascination. With a deep breath, they seem to meditate to attempt their own transformation.
Their body settles on a sickly, scarred man with red-brown hair. The ears and the tail remain, as does the visibly pregnant stomach.
Sonar is left speechless by the sight.
The wolf-hybrid is speechless also, though for differing reasons. He sniffs the nervous bat's neck before curling against him, the feral part of his mind taking the reins.
The manbat's hand shakes as he reaches for his earpiece;
Sonar: "Found the wolfman."
Chase: "Any trouble?"
Sonar: "Not... in the traditional sense. He's calm now, but obviously still in feral-mode. Something def spooked him."
Chase: "Can you move him?"
Sonar, flustered-sounding: "UH... well, he's kinda... asleep on me. And I don't wanna move him in case I jostle the pups."
Chase, voice serious: "The what?"
Sonar: "The pups. Guy's clearly pregnant. I can hear the little heartbeats and everything."
Chase, after deep inhale: "Mal, portal in and help Batboner carry his new friend back to base. Blazer is gonna want to see this."
When Robert's rational mind finally comes to, it's in the medical ward of SDN Torrance. As he tries to wipe the exhaustion from his eyes, he realises that he's clinging to a furry pillow. Pressing his swollen tummy against the warm grey fluff.
Well, not a so much a "pillow", as a blushing bat-hybrid man. Thankfully both of them dressed in medical gowns. The manbat seems quite happy to continue being used as a body pillow for the time being, purring loudly like a pleased cat.
Robert didn't think he could be more mortified until a man he recognises by scent as Trackstar bursts through the door at his awakening - demanding to know how Robert found himself in such a precarious situation.
Robert can only reply with a flat joke to deflect his past six months of trauma.
"Congrats. It's puppies."
The manbat only purrs louder.
There was a bit of media cover-up involved to make sure "Mecha Man turns into a big wolf after a coma" doesn't get out. Thankfully no one outside the medical professionals and the folks at SDN Torrance know what happened.
The manbat he's been clinging to like a security blanket is apparently an ex-villain-turned-hero named Sonar, and that Robert had essentially taken him hostage as a tired dog would.
Speaking of dogs; Beef is quickly tracked down to the very same hospital Robert had been staying at during his coma. Turns out the staff had allowed SDN a search warrant of Robert's (Mecha Man's) property in case of foul play or opportunistic villains. Beef had spent most of the past three-going-on-four months at Robert's bedside, his melancholy only broken up by the care of the adoring nurses. The chunky chihuahua mix is too overjoyed to see his owner again that he doesn't even seem to notice Robert's new canine features.
Chase is joyful in his own, mildly disappointed and worried, way. Vowing to "cut his [Robert's partner's] dick off and feed it to Beef!" for leaving his adoptive bro alone and pregnant.
Robert thinks bitterly of his past partner. There was a brief blip of activity on his phone the days after the explosion - then radio silence once more. Robert thinks it's for the best.
The Mech Suit is pushed to the back of Robert's mind for now. To be repaired only if for a worst case scenario. He has to prepare for at least 3 or 4 little lives to enter his own.
Being a dispatcher isn't as exciting as field work, but it's certainly a lot safer and more social than stalking the streets alone.
The fact that the very Z-Team that Robert directs contains the funny, surprisingly-gentle manbat that helped bring him down from his feral episode is a nice bonus.
As is the bat-hybrid's adoptive pup that clings to Robert like he's his own mother. That's a very adorable bonus. (The superstitions passed down from his grandmother reasons that "five is better than four" after all...)
