We didn't saw using magic that much since he's mostly using tecnology

TWST tech seems to be magitech rather than “conventional” (real-life) tech (take, for instance, blastcycles being magic-powered iirc) so it still tracks :3 though I will say I think book 7 shows this off the most so if you’re not there yet that’s fair LOL
Also book smarts ≠ street smarts! The ol high INT low WIS combo <3 god knows I was a gifted kid back when I was in school but I’d still be doing incredibly stupid things (and I continue to do incredibly stupid things <3)
your theory abt interactions reminded me that each overblotter was involved somehow with the next (riddle fight leona, leona sanded Azul's contracts, Azul pissing off Jamil, etc.) do u think ur gonna incorporate that kind of thing for ur round 2 things? (although you did say there are like domino triggers for some so I guess its similar)
Oh yeah!! I do like that lil cascading effect :3 I’m not quite sure if it’s going to be a situation where last book’s overblotter(/group) helps out current book’s overblotter OR if it’ll potentially be more along the lines of round 1 helping round 2 (or a mix of both???) but I’m always a fan of playing w/ various character connections and the like :3
Like I said I’m not super tuned in to the theory crafting space (yet at least) so this has probably been said before BUT:
I’m betting it either is or has something to do with Grim. Or, more specifically, his blessing/curse.
More elaboration below:
So my main line of thinking has to do w/ like… interactions? Like you can trace the escalation of overblotter behavior to their interactions with Grim (+Yuu)? It’s harder to tell with the earlier ones solely because we don’t know people as well at that point but:
Some of these are pretty direct (Riddle collaring Grim during orientation, Azul making a deal with Grim for exam info, Ortho (+Idia) capturing Grim while he’s loose on campus)
Some are more just via association/proximity (Grim auditioning for SDC, Yuu+Grim accidentally stepping on Leona’s tail, Malleus hanging around Ramshackle etc)
Jamil’s the hardest to pinpoint imo but part of me wonders if the inciting thing for him might’ve actually been back in ch2 when he’s injured by Savanaclaw’s scheme & makes a few appearances. Judging by the preview at the end of 3, he’d already been mind controlling Kalim by that point, and I wouldn’t doubt that having the Ramshackle duo staying over was like fuel to the fire.
I feel like, while a lot of the attitudes we see from the overblotters were present prior to this, it definitely seems like the sort of thing where The Blot Trigger sped up the process significantly- and has been getting more and more extreme with it (see: getting mad and collaring a few too many people -> I Am Going To Kill Neige At This Public Event -> Putting the entire island asleep (with the intention to do the same to the rest of the world))
As for why I’m saying Grim rather than Yuu? Well:
We know thanks to STYX that he DOES have some sort of enchantment on him.
Azul’s case doesn’t involve Yuu initially since Yuu didn’t join in on the exam deal.
Granted I’m sure Yuu poking around and digging into things isn’t helping LOL. I don’t think they’re starting the fire though if that makes sense-
It’s worth noting that during the enchantment reveal the differences (or lack thereof) between curses & blessings is pretty heavily emphasized. I feel like whatever this enchantment is, it’s probably got something to do with some sort of… [gestures vaguely] increase in magic power? Or maybe potential??
For our stronger mages (housewardens & Jamil) that pushes them over the edge and into overblotter territory- which could read as a curse
For less strong mages (like our delightful freshies) that acts as a spark to help with unlocking signature spells & the like- which could read as a blessing
Anyway!!!! Those are my thoughts thus far LOL hopefully that’s somewhat coherent

So I know you've mentioned Idia didn't get any lingering effects post blot BUT did you ever consider what would have happened to him if his curse didn't negate any effects and/or what stage he'd be at?
Definitely stage 3! Though I have been considering the wires from his OB form- the ones that connect him to Phantom!Ortho? They'd probably leave some scarring:
So! even though he doesn't have any of the usual postblot effects, there is that!
As far as what a proper stage 3 Idia would look like.. I'll probably be cooking up a stageswap post soon (so I can cover what some of the stage 1-2 charas would look like at stage 3!)
A thing that bugs me is that nobody talks about how powerful the overblotters are
Like not even the game mentions it
Only Mall's power is mentioned sometimes bc he's one of the most powerful mages and Trey(?) said that Riddle mastered his UM at the age of 10
You need to be a very good mage to ob and Crowley said that is very hard for Ace and Deuce to ob bc they not that powerful
Nods nods. It’s a really neat detail! Not to say that you can’t train to reach that level (Azul mentions starting to take magic seriously at a comparatively later age when talking to Riddle- plus STYX notes differences in the sizes of the overblotters’ magic pools etc) but it’s definitely something that I’d say holds most of the freshmen back (I’d highlight Ace + Deuce + Epel in particular as Sebek + Jack seemingly??? had their Sig. Spells learned (…though maybe not exactly mastered lol) before starting at NRC)
oh is there more of them + chain reactions in the round 2 overblots because the [whatever’s causing all these abnormal overblots] is getting worse/stronger?
Oooooo good question!!! In a way maybe? I’ve been thinking of a lot of the round 2 stuff as an accumulation of factors- and the [Unknown Mystery Thing] could definitely be one of them!
Also by accumulation I mean like:
With the Heartslabyul duo (Cater + Trey), Cater’s OB is a factor that sets off Trey’s (on top of his other stresses regarding Riddle and generally being The Responsible One etc)
Since I’m playing w/ the order a bit, Kalim’s OB gets to take place after everyone moves up a grade- and therefore his pop music clubmates are away on their internships. Combine that w/ his trust issues + fears getting worse and… Uh oh!
Similarly, Diasomnia’s would also be later on- so Sebek & Silver are both grappling with the idea of being at school without their liege (…and their dad/uncle lol) - with Sebek obviously doing Particularly bad in that regard.
Like. That sort of thing ^ so there could Totally be an aspect of “and also The Blot Trigger is having More of an influence”

I like to think he left in the dead of night! He left a note, but if anyone believed it was real/actually written by him of his own volition is a whole other question (especially given all the kidnappings etc)
Does the carpet count-
He mostly relied on other peoples’ sightings and just generally asking around. Kalim’s pretty aware of the fact that Jamil (and potentially others) is hot on his trail, so he moves around almost constantly. Emphasis on almost though- I’m sure Jamil is able to catch up eventually lol
Idk what sort of issues I have but, for some reason, Jamil caring if Kalim is upset with him/considers him a friend and feeling distraught when he (seemingly) is or doesn't unearths so many feelings in me
REAL… they make me ill <3 for as much as he denies it you can still catch glimpses of Jamil caring and I think abt that a lot…

So, random question, with your azul design after overblotting.. cause i noticed this when i got his overblot card.. but the dude has spikes on his forearms.. you think some of the markings he gotten after the overblot is on his forearms where those spikes were? just curious on the funny thought..
oooo yeah his spikes!!! honestly probably 👀 I'll have to remember to keep those in mind as i work on the refs haha
If you haven't covered this.. what does runaway Kalim do all day? And to get money? Does Lilia occasionally pass him pocket change and "some little 'ol thing I had lying around" (its a historical treasure that can go for thousands that Kalim pawns off) every once in a while? Does he do random street performances for change? (dangerous, who knows who could record him.) or does he like, ask random restaurants if he can work for a day at the cost of food and maybe a place to stay, I'm so curious ajshsk
It's a lot of the latter! Helping out at shops or restaurants or farms or wherever else might need an extra hand in exchange for a meal or a place to spend the night. Plus I feel like he prefers trading goods/services when he can rather than actually exchanging cash- he didn't really bring anything with him (not even any jewelry!) and that's very intentional on his part.
