but one day Eddie finds the key and he unlocks the cage down by the barrens and his daemon is so so so HAPPY to be FREE. and his daemon is running and he’s running and both of them can breathe and jump and race and live and from that day on, Eddie promises his daemon to always let her out during the day, and to run with her every afternoon from here until forever

when he’s still on lockdown, Richie manages to break into Eddie’s room through the window, and when he sees that Eddie doesn’t look to good, it becomes clear what Sonia has done and his heart aches so badly seeing him looking smaller than he ever has in his bed, his trusty daemon nowhere to be found. he’s the one to anonymously call the school and let them know that Eddie is fine (or will be) and they get on the phone with Sonia while Richie breaks Eddie out.

Eddie manages to steal the key while Sonia isn’t looking and him and his cheetah start to run, but Eddie hasn’t felt well in days and neither has his daemon. He’s halfway out the back door when he suddenly feels incredibly dizzy, but Richie catches him and carries him all the way down the block to Stan’s house where he knows they’re safe (and Richie’s daemon, a jackal just like @swampmanstan says in their wonderful addition to @audraphillipps ‘s post, helps Eddie’s cheetah when she falters in her steps as well).

God, Richie and his jackal are both head over heels for Eddie and his cheetah. It’s literally insane the lengths they’ll go for those two. Richie’s jackal once challenged Eddie’s cheetah to a race, and they argued the ENTIRE TIME. The rest of the losers couldn’t stop laughing because they bickered just like how Richie and Eddie bickered. To be fair, Richie’s jackal nearly had a panic attack when Eddie’s cheetah was having trouble escaping the Kaspbrak household, and that’s the most worried anyone has ever seen her.
