Of Starlight and Underdark [LOTR Au]
i really want to blurb about my au for Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit which is a crossover of Middle-Earth and D&D. i crave talking about it and i don't have anywhere else to talk about it really so here we are lol.
Drow are a thing, they're just like, deep into hiding on their own unmarked island.
here's the short of how Drow work in this au; https://archiveofourown.org/works/71291171/chapters/185501581 you don't need to read chapter 2, just chapter 1.
now, later in the timeline of the AU, in the Fourth Age, Dragonborne would become a thing and dragons would make a return across Arda, though very few in number. Most of Of Starlight and Underdark (OSAU)'s story would take place in the Fourth Age, following two rascals, Galdirion and Amaryn, both half elf and quarter drow. It's a little complicated how Galdirion was born as he's the blood son of Leif (my Half-drow oc) and Elrond.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amaryn never knew Elrond as he had already sailed to the West, Leif had stayed behind for a while before he, too, sailed to the West. The only Drow to ever be able to go into the Undying Lands due to his great deeds of helping stop Sauron. He would leave behind his daughter and son, Amaryn and Galdirion (respectfully) and Galdirion would raise his sister by himself after Tauriel also eventually leaves. Due to being Elves, the two siblings wouldn't age and would outlast all their honorary and blood family. When Arwen and Aragorn's grandson takes the throne, much of Arda had changed. Dwarves were no longer hiding out in their mountains and the few Elves that couldn't sail off mingled with the mortals, Hobbits were forced to no longer live inside the Shire and were scattered.
Galdirion and Amaryn would leave to the uncharted lands of Rhun in the East in search of rumors of the Dökkálfar (Dark Elves/Drow), a part of their heritage they didn't know. In their adventures they'd meet many new faces and races, Half-Orcs, Goblins, other Half-Elves, Dwelfs, Dwobbits, Dragonbornes. And many more through the many long years. Whispers of the infamous Blue Wizards would come up and with a darkness rising, the brother-sister duo would look for these missing Istari to beg for help.
When the Dagor Dagorath (Arda's own {basically the prophesied end times) eventually happens, the Free Peoples were able to win, but instead of the "Remaking of the World" one would expect, life just...continued on. Middle-Earth was wasted and the Free Peoples had to remake the world. Maps changed, landscapes were gone or changed or new ones cropped up. The Old World faded from the minds of everyone, Gondor was gone, no longer was there a throne for a king to rule all Men. Amaryn and Galdirion would see it all and live it, the return of the Drow during and after the battle against Morgoth and his ilk.
Magic would become more common amongst people in the new Fifth Age, though no one called it Ages anymore. Humans would learn to become wizards first through the teachings of the Blue Wizards and they would pass it on to the other races, leaving the Blue Wizards obsolete and letting the Istari to leave Arda. Many battles would occur in this new world and Galdirion and Amaryn would help fight these battles and wars, no matter how weary they became.
Eventually, after so long, Galdirion and Amaryn were allowed passage to join their parents, letting them finally rest for the first and last time in their lives.
