this is something that's been bothering me ever since I read this panel

Because the only way she'd have no idea who Akai Shuichi, the silver bullet of the black org is if they had both made their exit from the org roughly around the same time. But we know that Haibara defected roughly a few months ago during the canon timeline, AFTER her sister is killed. And her sister was also killed a few months ago during the canon timeline, AFTER akai was revealed as a double agent.

So Akai was revealed as a double agent pre-canon.

Ok, maybe it was within a very short period of time during pre-canon that everything happend one after another and–

Two years! You're telling me that in the two years and however many months until Haibara defected no one ever mentioned the name Akai Shuichi in her presence?

Okay, maybe her sister didn't want to talk about it. But not Gin? Vodka? Agents who clearly enjoy taunting and tormenting her don't ever bring it up to her?

Even if they weren't doing it to taunt her, wouldn't it be something she'd be told as a matter of course? Her sister was dating a traitor, so wouldn't it be logical to inform her about said traitor's true identity and aliases in case he made contact??

And EVEN IF for some strange reason the BO higher ups decided this is secret knowledge that Sherry cannot have access to despite literally being a codenamed member ... Why do the literal lowest level grunts know Akai's full government name after getting a tiny glimpse of him?

What we do know about Haibara is that she loved her sister more than anything, she's extremely intelligent and she can hold a grudge against people who hurt her loved ones. It literally is OOC for her to NOT look into Dai's real name and past after he betrayed her sister.

and even if she didn't, if there was some conspiracy hiding the information from her (which also doesnt make sense btw they were literally using her sister's safety to blackmail her into cooperating with them so having her hold a grudge against the FBI would have been beneficial to the org) surely she could have interacted with low-level grunts who apparently all can identify Akai Shuichi after getting a glimpse of him?? Surely she was there to watch Akai Shuichi become the bogeyman of the black org?

Anyway the worst part of this whole thing is the panel right after it

WHY, CONE??? WHY DO YOU NEED TO WITHHOLD THIS INFORTAMTION FROM HER? Does she not deserve to know?? To make the decision on knowing who Akai is and either meeting or not meeting him? On forgiving or not forgiving him for the role he played in her sister's death?

I agree on the whole Shiho not knowing that Moroboshi=Akai being quite stupid in hindsight. However, I do think that it was set-up for Shiho actually learning and confronting Akai during the Bourbon arc, until Aoyama changed his plans to the shitty lack of resolution we have now.

Also, I'd say that Kusuda might recognize him because he got warned in preparation for the mission in the hospital.

And Kudou hiding things from others because it benefits him having them out of his way when it comes to his plans? That's 100% in-character: wanting to keep both of them separate and use them both(Shiho for drugs and Akai as his sidekick) for his plans.

You got a point with Kusuda but yeah even with that explained its still weird plot wise that Haibara wasn't ever told/didn't ever investigate about his real identity

With regards to withholding info being in character for kudo, I do agree somewhat but i think Gosho's misogyny seeps into his writing here a little.

Bc if you compare the amount of information Cone shares with the other characters who have similar amounts of trust & knowledge about his identity as Haibara (aka Agasa, Heiji, his Parents, Akai) he definitely shares less info even when it's 100% relevant or needed in the situation. Like in the Vermouth arc you see this play out very blatantly with Heiji and Agasa and his parents playing pivotal roles meanwhile Haibara is just left with no information and stumbles straight into the belly of the beast BC of it. In a sense Haibara is treated by Cone to be as "useless" or "needing protection" as Ran (who has even less knowledge about the situation and is being gaslit even more but that's for another post lol).

Maybe it made sense in the mystery train arc bc they wanted Vermouth to believe everything but still the information withholding and gaslighting about Subaru is crazy work (especially since Conan at this point KNOWS Subaru is doing some creepy Protect Haibara by Stalking Her thingy??)
