CHAPTER 2 : Battle of the Bands.

8 months had passed since Nicki and Varrick’s first meeting. 8 months of smiles, laughter, tears, love, and their new song. this song contained every emotion that they had felt together in eight months, therefore it was bound to be amazing.

It was time to share their gift with the world.

They called it “office heart” after the place where their worlds changed for the best.

Varrick walked into Nicki’s dressing room, bubbly as usual.

“Are you ready for today my smol bean?” beamed Varrick.

Nicki sighed nervously. “I sure hope so Varrick. The battle of the bands is the biggest day of music in the world, and if i mess this up, my career is over.”

A single tear fell down Nicki’s cheek, but Varrick was quick to wipe it away.

“Nicki, I know you’ll do great. You are the queen of rap, and the most talented artist I’ve ever known. All of that along with our song? I think we’ve got a good shot my bäkã.” said Varrick in a warm tone.

“Why do you always have to be right?” giggled Nicki.

Suddenly, Nicki’s dressing room TV lit up. The battle of the bands had begun.

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am your host, Zucky Thickerberg, and welcome to the 75th annual Battle of The Bands Live from Radio City Music Hall. We have many great song artists lined up for tonight don’t we, Dula Peepa?”

The camera shot to Dula Peepa, who was standing in the audience.

“We sure do Zucky Thickerberg. First up tonight we have Jo Jo Siwa followed by Ed Sheeran, and for all of you tiktokers out there, get ready for Dixie Damelio!”

Varrick gave Nicki’s hand a comforting squeeze, and met her nervous eyes with his assured peepers.

The night drew on, and many artists played wonderful songs. As great as the songs were, Nicki’s nerves prevented her from paying any attention. She was revealing her life’s greatest work, how could she focus?

She clenched as Cardi B and Meghan The Stallion walked on stage.

Her eyes were glued to her Tv screen until a knock on her door snapped her out of her trance.

“Miss Minaj! Please get ready! You’re up after this song!” Shouted the stage manager.

Great. As if this night couldn’t get anymore nerve racking. She now had to follow her greatest rival. Nicki gave a loving look to Varrick, and proceeded to get ready for her performance.

Varrick was the proudest man in the world. He watched Nicki walk away, and smiled wondering how he got so lucky. He was dating the most talented and beautiful woman that this world had to offer. He fiddled with the ring in his pocket. He was so ready to take his and Nicki’s relationship to the next level.

He shifted his attention to the Tv where the love of his life’s rival was soon to perform. The song started, and the crowd cheered.

Shit.

Varrick knew that this song was good, he had listened to it over and over again in an attempt to top it. It was perfect in rhythm and lyrics. He knew all of this, but he didn’t know how mind blowing the performance he was currently watching was going to be. All of the song writing in the world couldn’t top it.

No. He couldn’t doubt. Not now. Not when the song he had worked so hard on was about to be revealed. He tried to push down his doubt. He really did, but it was too good.

Suddenly Nicki came back dressed in her performance outfit.

“How do I look?” asked Nicki.

Wow. Just Wow. Varrick was paralyzed by her beauty. She was truly, the most beautiful girl in the world. She was the moon. No, all of the stars. Not even that. She was the-

“Varrick?” said Nicki with a confused look on her face.

“Oh! Sorry. You look simply star stunning my love.”

Nicki looked lovingly into his eyes, and Varrick returned the glance.

“Now let’s go show you to the world!” Varrick yelled.

Nicki giggled and hurried into the wings. Cardi finished, and the hosts gave their praise.

Finally, Nicki stepped onto stage, and looked out over the anticipated crowd. It was now or never.

Nicki closed her eyes and breathed in.

“Wait!” came a voice from the wings, “I have a confession!”

The crowd gasped.

“Hold on a second everyone.” said Dula Peepa. “It looks like someone is coming onto stage. Oh my god, is that tiktoker cr00kedn0se???????”

The crowd went insane.

Gabi ran onto stage and swiftly took the microphone from Nicki.

Nicki looked to her boyfriend who was watching from the wings. He looked scared, like he knew what was going on. Nicki was terrified.

“Yes, it is I, cr00kedn0se from tiktok. Many of you may know that 8 months ago, Nicki Minaj started dating Iknik Blackstone Varrick, the founder of Varrick Industries International. Although they are very happy together, I am in love with Varrick, and I have been for a very long time.”

The crowd let out many screams. Varrick went pale.

“Here! Here! Pass the mic to me!” came a voice from the audience.

The microphone was passed to him, and he began talking.

“Hey Nicki. It’s me, Lin Manuel Miranda. We dated about a year and a half ago. Our break up was the hardest time in my life. I have thought of you non-stop since you left me. Nicki Minaj, I am still so in love with you. Please take me back.”

No. This couldn’t be happening. This was so much worse than Nicki Could have imagined.

Everyone in the audience began to vomit out of pure shock.

“No!” came a third voice. The Microphone was passed once again.

“Gabi, I am so in love with you. I married you with passion and love. How could you do this to me? I loved you!” said the person from the audience.

“My name is is Kale, and I am married to cr00kedn0se from tiktok.”

At this point. The entire audience was desperately gasping for breath, inches away from death.

Nicki was distraught. She looked to Varrick who was terrified to the bone.

What was going to happen to her career?

What was going to happen to her relationship?

Nicki didn’t know if she could go on.

Chapter 1: WAV

It started as most days do for Nicki. She woke up, got her coffee, and she checked her twitter.

It was trending again. That song. The song made by her rival. Perfect beat. It got stuck in everyone’s heads. The kids loved it. They danced to it, oblivious of how it hurt Nicki. WAP, they called it. The name was short, sweet and easy to remember.

It was perfect. Nicki couldn’t deny it. She knew she had to top it, but she didn’t know if she could.

No, she did know she could. The kids loved her! They loved every move she made; every breath she took,

Or did they? The song was perfect, goddamnit. Not even Mozart could top it.

She knew what she had to do.

She needed a new producer.

Her current one was sweet, really, but not even she could top WAP.

She needed the best.

She had no choice.

The first guy was strict. He was all business. The minute he walked in, he shook Nicki’s hand and started talking numbers, and stats. and logic, but no where did he mention music.

Definitely not him.

The second lady was quite the opposite. She knew nothing of numbers, and yawned whenever Nicki Spoke. Suddenly, she got up.

Her reasoning? She wanted a Travis Scott burger.

Absolutely not.

“Um, chile, anyways so... :(” said Nicki, sadly.

Nicki was ready to give up. She packed her things, and wished her careers goodbye, until he walked in.

He had confidence. She could tell by the way he was walking. He entered the the room as if he had been there a million times. He had a mustache that sat like a lonesome pencil on his lip. And those eyes. His eyes spoke a million words. They meant business, but left room for fun. The blue, a song bird on a perch.

“Hello Miss Minaj!”

He said as he waltzed up to Nicki.

Instantly, he shook her had with such vigor, Nicki could have passed out right there.

“Name’s Varrick! Heard you needed a new producer, eh? Well today’s your lucky day!”

Nicki was shocked! She had no room for thoughts. She couldn’t tell if it was the fact that is all happened so quick, or the way he approached her.

“You heard right.” uttered Nicki,

“You see, there’s a song out; WAP, I’m sure you know. It’s good. Really good. I need to top it. My career depends on it.”

Varrick saw the look in her eyes, he’d always had that talent. She looked sad, angry, and hungry. Hungry for her career. Hungry for popularity. Hungry for...

No. It couldn’t be! They’d just Met!

He looked again to confirm what he had read.

She was hungry for him.

“Listen, I can tell how bad you want this, I want this too. Let’s team up. We can make this happen, but we need to do it together. What do you say?”

What did she say? What could she say! He was just what she needed. He had charm. He had Passion. He was goofy, yet serious when he needed to be. His physique tantalized Nicki in a way that had never happened before. She had been with many men in the past, but none this entrancing.

She couldn’t say all that, so she did what her heart needed her to do.

She kissed him.

She kissed him, and to her surprise, he kissed back.

Nicki couldn’t believe herself.

What was she doing?

She just met this man! Nicki didn’t believe in love at first sight, at least she didn’t think she did. The kiss was so risky, but then again, so was everything else she was doing.

She had no time to take into account risks. She needed this.

Varrick and Nicki stayed with their lips locked for about 5 minutes, until they broke. They were both breathless.

“Should uh,”

gasped Nicki,

“Should we get to work?”

Varrick didn’t know what she meant by “work”. Did she mean their song, or... other things.

He didn’t care. Either way, the answer was yes.

Varrick grabbed Nicki’s hips. Nicki let out a small moan with his grasp.

“We shall.” Varrick growled.

They kissed again, with more passion; more vigor.

Nicki knew where this was going, so she locker her office door, and closed her blinds. Varrick slammed Nicki onto her desk, before getting to work.

It started as most days do for Nicki, but it had gone so much better than she could comprehend.

we are NOT going to talk about how much i love varrick sokka and bolin.

(This will use the example of Éponine from the Les Misérables musical.)

I feel that a good amount of people know about both the characters Éponine (Les Misérables) and Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas), but not many people have noticed the intense similarities between the two. If you are familiar with either of their stories, you could see why.

First i’ll break down each character’s storyline, starting with Éponine. (If you want to indulge in les misérables on your own *hahahaha* , I strongly advise that you do so before proceeding.)

Éponine starts as the young daughter of two shady innkeepers, Monsieur and Madame Thénardier. They house another child named Cosette, but the Thénardiers abuse her, and force her to wear rags while eponine wears fine bonnets and dresses. A man named Jean Valjean eventually comes to take Cosette away, and raises Cosette as his own daughter. About 10 years pass by, and the Thénardiers lose their inn, and become impoverished beggars on the streets of France. The Thénardiers resort to a life of crime in which Éponine is forced to partake in. Éponine befriends and falls in love with a rich school boy named Marius, but the feeling is not mutual, or even recognized. This becomes even more clear when Marius meets Cosette, who has developed a stable and loving lifestyle under Jean Valjean’s care. Marius asks Éponine to find where Cosette lives, and take him to meet her. With a heavy heart, Éponine obeys and watches the pair go happily through the night. Éponine’s father comes later that night with the intent to rob Jean Valjean and Cosette, but Éponine stops them by screaming to warn Marius, Valjean, and Cosette. Marius and Éponine flee the scene. Later, a revolution sparks in the center of Paris. Éponine disguises herself as a man to fight alongside Marius. Marius instead sends her to deliver a letter to Cosette, and once again, she obeys with a heavy heart. After returning the letter Éponine climbs the barricade that the revolutionaries had set up in order to get back to Marius. In doing so, she is shot by a french soldier. She tells Marius that she gave the letter to Cosette’s father, who said he would give it to Cosette, but falls into Marius’ arms. Marius holds Éponine as she slowly fades away. Éponine attempts to kiss Marius, but dies before she can.

Now for Sally’s storyline:

Sally is a ragdoll created by an evil doctor in Halloween Town. She is locked in a tower by the doctor, but she often sneaks out due to a longing not only for a taste of the outside world, but to spend time with Jack Skellington. Sally loves Jack, but the feeling appears not to be returned, or noticed. Jack becomes obsessed with Christmas, but Sally forebodes that his obsession will lead to something tragic. She tries to warn Jack without bursting his bubble, but Jack cannot pick up on her signals, and proceeds to take over Christmas. in an attempt to help redeem the doomed holiday, Sally breaks into the mischievous Oogie Boogies lair, where Santa Claus was taken and held hostage. Sally attempts to set Santa free, but is caught. Oogie Boogie then attempts to kill both Santa and Sally. Sally keeps her hopes high that Jack will realize what she was trying to say, and come and rescue them, but it is revealed that Jack was blown out of the sky, and died. Oogie is just about to kill the two, before Jack, who infact hadn’t died, comes to rescue them. Jack then realizes everything that Sally had done for him, and realizes his own feelings. Santa returns Christmas Town, and Jack and Sally return to Halloween Town. There, jack and sally confess to each other, and share a long awaited kiss.

Wait a minute, are you seeing a similar pattern?

* A young girl is unhappy with a life forced on her by a corrupt authoritative figure.

* She has a love interest who does not notice her affection

* She breaks the authority’s rules in order to help her loved one, and to break free of her shackles.

* In helping her loved one something horrible happens, and the young girl comes extremely close to death, or dies.

To say that their similarities end there would be a severe under statement. Though physically Éponine and Sally have major differences, their outfits still share similarities. Both of the girls wear rags consisting of old fabrics , though they are put together in different ways.

Also, if you’ve listened to both The Nightmare Before Christmas album, and any Les Misérables cast album, you might see the major similarities between their big numbers. In fact, you could swap Sally’s Song, (Sally,obviously) and On My Own (Éponine) and both plot lines would still make perfect sense, express both characters’ hardships, and help to understand each character better.

Of course Sally and Éponine are not exactly alike, their only differences are extremely minor

* Éponine has a male and female authoritative figure, whereas sally only has a male authoritative figure.

* Éponine didn’t always have the same hardships, whereas Sally did

* Physically, Sally and Éponine do not look alike

* Sally is more quiet and closed off, while Éponine is outspoken and tough

* Éponine’s story takes place in 19th century revolutionary France based on real events , while Sally’s takes place in the fictional Halloween Town.

* Obviously, Éponine dies and doesn’t get to see her happily ever after, while Sally gets her’s.

Even my 4th point, the difference between the girls personalities can be seen as a similarity in the sense that Sally is soft, but can be tough when it comes to Jack, and Éponine is tough, but can be soft when it comes to Marius.

When in thought about this, I did acknowledge the fact that Marius loved Cosette, and that is why he ignored Éponine, but Jack did not have anyone else he loved that would cause him to ignore Sally. Though Jack did not have anyONE to love, he had Christmas, which also led him to ignore Sally. Hell, Cosette and Christmas even start with the same letter.

My final point comes from a post by @darkwingsnark. The post mentions that Sally always wanted to help Jack, but at the same time she didn’t want to bring him down from his high, or make him sad, and that’s what love is. When you love someone, you will choose what is best for them even if it means them being upset for a certain amount of time. This stuck with me for a while, and I realized that Éponine also faces a very similar dilemma. She has to make the difficult decision to do what will make Marius happy, instead of what would make her happy, because that’s what love is. Love is making the harder choice in a dilemma that will have the better outcome for the one you love, and this is a point both Éponine and Sally have to face.

These two characters have so much in common that goes ignored. I can’t help but watch The Nightmare Before Christmas and think that what happened to Éponine could have happened to Sally of things didn’t turn out the way they did. If by some chance you aren’t familiar with either Les Misérables or The Nightmare Before Christmas, I encourage you to dig deeper into both stories. Both are beautifully poetic, and very well known.
