Like, the uncanny valley describes the aesthetic of anything that is humanoid but not quite human. And I feel like it would have been really cool to lean into this more with the homunculi. Obviously this wouldn’t work with human-based homunculi (like Wrath and Greedling), but the other ones?

I’m talking Sloth and Gluttony falling into the uncanny valley because they have innately monstrous features and real humans don’t look like that. I’m talking Lust and Greed falling into the uncanny valley because they’re too pretty in a way that’s absolutely not human. If you were a teacher at Pride’s school, you might think that Selim is an adorable, perfect little child. Almost too adorable and perfect. And we already know that Envy’s humanoid form is an illusion, so there’s no way they could look like an authentic human.

What I’m saying is, if an ordinary human stared at a homunculus for too long, they should be able to know that something is terribly wrong. They’d feel uneasy; by focusing too pointedly, the human could see through the homunculus’s disguise and notice the parts of them that are not human—whether it be because the homunculus is too grotesque or too beautiful.

Like any time he threatens to get too cool the story completely guts it so fast and reminds us that he's a bratty little shit idiot bastard, literally so much of a dumbass jerk that his brother is aggressively offended that someone thought they might be alike.

like FMA shines specifically because it lets it’s characters truly be FLAWED!! the entire story is about how no one is perfect, everyone is fundamentally flawed and yet humanity is still worth fighting for because no matter how far we may fall, no matter how flawed we are, no matter how much harm we do, how much evil exists in the world, we are capable of just as much good and kindness and selfless, reckless love and we can always, ALWAYS, choose to be better

Ed spends the entire show trying to act older than he is and be cool and powerful and hide his mistakes and the show knocks him down every time, over and over, until he at last accepts that he is nothing more or less than a human and that it’s always been enough
