Do you start with a darker color for your flats and add light or the other way around?
The other way around, usually. But it depends on what I'm coloring. For some things with a darker base it's easier to go from dark to light, or depending on the type of material I'm trying to represent. For example, a reflective material, like metal, I find it easier to start from dark then add light
