i'd say it depends from person to person :) some giffers (most actually) absolutely hate reposts, so i'd say to check their blog first for a mention either in their bio or in their pinned post. regardless of that, i believe it to be common courtesy to avoid reposting a whole set and claiming such work as yours. we spend hours on those gifsets (yea… hours…) (puts head in hands) (screams and pulls hair out). but generally, there are a few ways to credit giffers on this site, either by using a link or just by searching up a gif in the gif section. these methods will let the site write down a little "from [username]" at the bottom part of the gif, so you can use it safely for fics/scenarios/whatever lovely fandom thingie. but if you wanna repost one on twitter… well… i'd say generally to credit the original post either in your main tweet or down below in the mentions, though keep in mind that people rarely open mentions so it can be kind of frustrating for a giffer. but again, it depends from person to person. and if you know for a fact that a giffer is on twitter (like me) (given i'm in a good mood and haven't randomly deactivated my account lol) just quote the gif with whatever thing you wanna say, or simply just repost it and mention them with a cute @ !! the author will be forever grateful, maybe they'll even put your name in their will, who knows…
