Marquess Nera-Montague, the Veiled Blade and the Returned Daughter of the House of Glass, Adjutant-Commandant of Les Fulgurites has been reported missing from her last known location on the Orbit of Glass, following an operation in the Grand Arc that left one dead and three others missing. Negotiations with the hostile pirates aboard the arc allowed the recovery of two of her comrades, but at the moment the location of Nera-Montague is unknown.

Given the total absence of all of her belongings at time of capture, including her mech, and examinations into the Arc, we have reason to suspect that she is still alive, and likely still held against her will.

House Montague will pay handsomely for any information that could lead to her rescue, and will bend any and all of our resources to see the end of those who hold her.

God fucking dammit I got kicked out of another fucking bar here just because I got into a "physical altercation" where someone put their hand on my shoulder to get my attention and I got really really scared and I cut their hand off and like the night was really going well before that because I was going to meet up with this girl who looks like my old boss in the bathroom before that happened but then they just haaaad to throw me out even though I was apologizing so so much and offering to clean up the blood and that person can just get a new hand grown anyways so it's basically not even that big of a deal.

Anyways fuck all of these incredibly restrictive rules in the businesses here and basically anywhere else I could take a blink gate to without traveling for several years on some overpriced IPS-N travel line where they don't even let me stay in the ventilation system even though I don't take up that much space and I bring all of my own food which is a sort of homemade crab jerky that I like to make sometimes even though my friends don't seem to like it very much.

I've got some bad news for you. The places that won't kick you out for this shit are also the places where dismemberment is met with immediate and lethal violence.

Also, aren't you supposed to be studying at KCC?

God forbid women have hobbies I guess...

I don't know how it works in the KTB, but I trained on the Honest Truth. If it came out that a trainee cut someone's hand off in a bar, that trainee would have been expelled and arrested. Not necessarily in that order.

I have difficulty believing that the Karrakin Cavalry College, one of the most privileged and elite institutes in the entire Arm, has lower disciplinary standards than IPS-N's glorified trade school.

Then again, what do I know? I'm an outsider who's never even seen Throne Karrakis, much less the KCC.

So why don't we consult an expert?

I'll have you know I'm an expert on many things, Concursa, but I don't keep tabs on the Cavalry College's administration, I'm simply a graduate.

I graduated fifteen subjective years ago, and administration has no doubt changed in that time. But I would assume their attitudes largely haven't.

When I was in attendance if someone were to have dismembered a nobody from a minor house that lacked influence, little would have happened, maybe a slap on the wrist. But if you were to dismember someone important? Say, the child and heir-apparent of the sitting Stonelord? Well I'm sure that being expelled from the College would be the last of your concerns, and I would make a hasty vacation plan to Aunic space to be safe.

You'd know better than an ignorant Concursa like me, so I guess I have to admit I was wrong. @normalpilot038 can cut off as many limbs as she likes, so long as they don't belong to anyone "important."

Truly, Baronic justice is the envy of the Arm.

My experience is might nuance the subject somewhat: while I would be lying if I were to say that such things do not happen, the grounds of acceptability are largely within the context of deniability, as they are anywhere. If one were to dismember someone at a club as an attendee of the KCC, one might be able to get away with it if they are nondescript, and their identity is not already known, and they do not make the mistake of complaining about these things on a public omninet channel. The chances of their crime becoming widely known, as Lady Alvilt has mentioned, are far lower with someone who is generally considered to be less important than one who is more, but dismemberment i still a crime and the KCC a government institution, and they usually do not sanction a scandal they can avoid. Dismembering people does that.

This is not to say it did not occur, and we did not have suspicion of the perpetrators, though. There were times when people would go missing, and while the perpetrators did not make themselves obvious, one learns to see the fingerprints of the sandmen where they acted. In this case it is as Lady Alvilt says, although they did not act in public nor brag about it, and the broader context of the problem is that some families have quite a lot of pull in quite a lot of places, and the KCC cannot afford to make an enemy of Baronic Intelligence when the ones they would be winning over are only an irrelevant minor house.

Admitting it on the omninet though is certainly a stretch.

All of the graceful engineering that marks the rest of this ship makes the hydroponics bay look like a mess in comparison.

I've tasked myself to fixing this. It is funny; botany is considered a noble art, but it is one I am only getting the opportunity to put into practice now.

The first task is actually making the setup make sense for each of the things being grown here. The choice so far seems eclectic and mostly based on what is most simple and not what is most ideal, and almost everything is fed off of the same nutrient wash. This can be made better. I do need to figure out what kind of flowers half of these are, though. They bear resemblance to a species of some concern, but I've concluded that they're perfectly legal, just unfamiliar to me.

This will take some time.

Can you offer me advice on how to save a dorm room houseplant.

Never really thought about the difference. Don't know how much that matters to the person being cut either at the end of the day.

Explaining the philosophical significance of the difference is something that could take several essays, but the reason I bring it up is because the person who practices combat does not necessarily kill. After all, a rifle drill harms no one but a metal target and a sparring match isn't to the death. Even in active combat it's possible to non-lethally disable mechs. All of that still falls under Cutting Down Your Opponent.
