Do you guys ever think how it was technically Corazon who had the upper hand the entire time he was in the Donquixote pirate? I mean, he’s the adoptive son of a admiral aka Sengoku, he knows Garp and Tsuru, I’m almost positive if Cora was tired of their bullshit he could’ve just called Sengoku and said: “Hey I’m tired of these guys mind getting the others and dealing with them?” And Sengoku would! We see how Sengoku reacted in Dressrosa when Law was mentioned. I mean imagine the anger and hatred Sengoku has towards the Doflamingo in general! He was probably glad Doffy got his ass wooped!
While on the topic of Law, I do believe that Law made Doffy have the upper hand. Because Cora was so focused on getting a cure for his little gremlin of a kid that it allowed Doffy to collect info, and gain the upper hand on the duo. And it wasn’t until the brothers stand off that Law realized that.
I know my ramble is all over the place but let’s think about Cora’s devil fruit for a moment: the Nagi Nagi no mi or Calm Calm fruit. If Doflamingo was smart and played his cards correctly he would’ve had a powerful piece. Cora’s devil fruit makes it so he can be silent/make areas silent. Perfect for assassinations, infiltration, gaining info on enemy. We know we had gun, lighter and matches. Two of those things were for his cigarettes. BUT! Listen, he could’ve put a calm on himself, shot all the Donquixote adults stole the kids and set the boat on fire with the matches or lighter. But he didn’t! He could’ve assassinated his brother and crew, but didn’t.
Back to Cora having the upper hand, we know he can navigate, we know he’s smart, we know this guy can play people. He did that all to Doffy and his crew! People who were feared in the North! Cora had made it so close to Doffy that Doflamingo said, “Whoever touches him dies.” I know that like, Doffy saying Cora’s his precious baby brother, but from a different perspective, that can be used as an upper hand. Which Cora used. I’m not saying everything he did was for an upper hand, I’m just saying I think at the start, before Law, Cora was the one to have the upper hand. And if possibly he never met Law or Law had met someone else who wasn’t in the Donquixote pirates, Cora might’ve won.
