About Our System • System Directory • Disclaimer • FAQ
Hello! We are the Nonsensical System, a mixed-origin OSDD style system with both a traumagenic side and an endogenic side. The main body is over 25 years old, and the hosts use dan/gan pronouns (but that's a lie) while the greater system collectively uses plural they/them pronouns.
As a collective we answer to Noni, but a directory of other system members can be found above in this pinned post or our blog links. While we do have core hosts, this blog is primarily meant for the collective use of the traumagenic side of the system, referred to as the Inner System. The endogenic side, referred to as the Outer System is quite large and divided into sects with their own sideblogs, found in their sections of the directory.
We do not engage in syscourse, shipcourse, or other discourse that involves harassment. Such topics and other harassment will be blocked. Further details can be found in our Disclaimer found above in this pinned post or blog links.

Today's episode of my YouTube video series is sponsored by; Some Fucking Scam
Some Fucking Scam, it seems a little sketchy now, but its lent legitimacy by the number of people they're paying to talk about it. Five years from now there will be a four hour video essay about how its a fucking scam and stole millions of dollars and leaked literally all of your data, but right now? It seems mildly convenient.
Give your money to Some Fucking Scam, because literally Every. Single. Thing. advertised by a YouTuber is a grift.
A pun post crossed my dash, and I reblogged it with an equally bad pun in return. A couple of my followers find it funny, it's a good day for everyone.
That was on July 7th.
Virality on Reddit was entirely algorithmic. You could garner a couple crossposts, but the success of a post was entirely dependent on whether or not it hit r/all--the main page of Reddit. If your post does that, it's immediately exposed to 10x the number of people and immediately gets upvoted.
On my pun post, I get a couple reblogs. And those reblogs get a couple reblogs--nobody really adds any content to the post, it just gets a couple reblogs here and there.
There's a specific chain of reblogs that I'd like to focus on. The most popular post on this chain has about 25 reblogs on it. Half the posts have three reblogs or fewer. Five posts in this chain have just one reblog total.
But the reblog chain keeps going. And going. It breaches containment many times over. And finally, after a chain THIRTY SIX posts long, at 9:30 AM, July 22nd this morning, it hits a popular account.
99% percent of the people who have seen the post--virtually unchanged from how it left my dash--have seen it because it was curated by 36 different people. That's insane to me.
None of those 36 people know that they're part of this chain. They saw a post, reblogged it, and moved on. If any one of these people had not reblogged, the post would have a fraction of the impact it has.
And yet, after two weeks, the post has effectively hit the main page of tumblr. It was picked up, only because people liked it enough to show it to their followers. There were no algorithms necessary.
You really, truly, cannot get this on any other website.

You dig a big enough hole that water can stay in, it becomes a pond. And once it's been a pond for long enough, fish somehow appear. Even though it's not connected to any other water - hell, consider all the lakes that aren't connected to any other water. How the fuck are there fish? Where do they come from?
One day, something in space is going to look at humans the same way. You go to a new galaxy and there's freaking humans in there, like they just spontaneously manifest on random planets that have the ability to sustain them. All you need is an atmosphere with enough oxygen, some form of water, and that's pretty much all you need before they seem to just pop out of the ground and start terraforming it.
The mystery of the lake fish has been solved, by the way. It's waterfowl. Much like the birds that eat seeds and spread them around, waterfowl consume roe from the water, and while the number of fertilised fish eggs that pass through the digestive system of a duck or wild goose alive and unharmed may be small, it's not zero. A goose will shit in the lake water, and through comes the roe. It happens just often enough that lakes and ponds become - and remain - populated with fish.
Humans don't pop up on unknown planets and and unreachable galaxies on purpose. They couldn't get in there any more than they could get out of there, they have no choice but to claim the most viable-looking planet they can reach and start terraforming it. But how did they even get there?
You see, every once in a while an unfortunate human spaceship gets swallowed by a cosmic duck
Me when I contact IT and tell them yes I restarted and followed any instructions I could but computer still angry and IT says they are escalating this because it is an actual issue: I am getting a good grade in service desk ticket. Something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve.
taggs via @ruffboi-mags: #yeah like i'm... well there was a time when i was definitely one of the least computer literate people i knew#like this was back in the late 90s/early 00s mostly#but like i could do basic things but i was woefully lacking in most kinds of knowledge#buuuut i could FIND most of what I needed if I actually read things and searched for guides and what not so i did okay#fast forward to today and i swear even half the people i would've thought would have the same approximate level of skill i have#(ie were nerdy and online/using computers regularly back in the late 90s/early 00s)#seem to... not?#I don't know if they had it and forgot because they let apps and fancier windows and geek squad and shit take over#or if i just overestimated everyone#but it's wild to me that even folks my age who are nerdy and online and have been since their teens#are... often kind of lacking in the basic skills department#i contact IT going 'hey guys there's a lot of fancy visual stuff windows likes to run that i normally turn off on my personal computer#because it's a little unnecessarily CPU-heavy to have them all running#and my work laptop here is running real laggy and is using a lot of memory and processing on stuff#and while a lot of it is stuff like the VPN and firewall that I know need to be running for security#this stuff could be turned off and it might help a bit. but it's admin locked so *I* can't change the settings can you for me?'#and they're like 'oh probably that won't make a difference but sure' and remote log in and pull up the wrong settings#(you need to go into one of the more technical menus to get at the setttings I don't remember where specifically but i usually get there#by the run option rather than just opening it through menus)#and i'm like no no#let me have the cursor and i'll open the menu in question#and so i do and they just kind of sit there for a moment and are like '...so what settings did you want to change?'#and i said click that button enter your admin login to access the menu and then turn off every option except this one#and they do and immediately things are improving so i thank them and they seem absolutely baffled that i knew those settings existed#and that i knew turning them off may help with the lag#but like... i knew bc i googled how to improve my memory/cpu use so my computer would run a lil better and it seems like no one but tech pp#think to do that sort of thing anymore????#idk man it's just wild to me#all this rambling to say i really hate how much my OS tries to control FOR me and how difficult they make it to change settings#and i wish i could use linux better than i can and also that i could use it on my work computer specifically

The way necromancy works is this: Everything in your body — meat, bones, skin, blood — has something like a memory. They remember, in their own way, what it’s like to be alive. Skin remembers the sun. Bones remember what shape they’re supposed to be in. Muscle memory is more than just an idiom.
The way necromancy works is that the caster puts a little bit of their willpower into a corpse to order it to remember how it functioned in life and obey. This is easiest to do with bones, which are easy to trick, and becomes increasingly difficult the more of the original body remains.
To reanimate a full body to your command, you have to have a lot of willpower.
The necromancer checked the map. She checked the map again. She squinted up at the stars, lips moving silently. Then, taking the lantern off its hook, she peered over the side of the little sailboat.
There wasn't much to see. The sea was dark and still as glass, except where the lanternlight turned a patch of seawater a yellowish-green. A tiny fish flitted into the gleam, attracted to the light, and then vanished into the murk again.
The necromancer chewed the inside of her cheek. She sat down again, the boat bobbing gently with the movement, and checked the map one more time. Then she opened the little wooden case on the floor of the boat, which unfolded into a neat arrangement of drawers.
There were. Things. In the drawers. Some wriggled. Others twitched little beetly legs into the night air. A few of them made noises, which ran together into a squeaky, wheezy squeal of horror.
The necromancer twiddled her fingers over the display as she considered her options. Then she grabbed a few of the twitching, wriggling things, held them in her palm and squeezed her hand into a fist as tightly as she could with a squelching noise.
She opened her hand to inspect her work. She breathed the spell into it, and then, holding her hand over the edge of the boat, dropped the spell into the sea.
And that seemed to be it. She sat back in the boat and closed the little wooden case. After a moment she started looking over the map again.
There were a lot of handwritten notes on the map. Each one was connected to a mark and some coordinates; some of them said, "Storm 1457," or "Struck a rock 1483." Others said "Total failure," or “Completely dissolved.”
The note the necromancer seemed most interested in was the one that read, “Battle of Salzstein, 1501.”
The necromancer checked the map. She checked the map again. She squinted up at the stars, lips moving silently, and then she was suddenly thrown down to the floor of the boat as though a giant, invisible hand had crushed her.
Her mouth opened in a noiseless scream.
Two minds were fighting for control of the corpse; on one side was the mind of the caster, and on the other was the memories of bones, of flesh, of skin, trying to drive the caster out.
The weight of that mind was incredible.
Sweat poured off the necromancer’s brow; darkness whorled across her vision. Then slowly, every movement a bone-breaking agony, she pushed herself onto her hands and knees, lungs straining.
The trick was that this mind knew how to obey.
The necromancer stood, wobbled, steadied herself and poured her willpower into the sea. She tried to make hers the full willpower the thing had obeyed in life, the will of the wind, of the sea, of the rigging and the wheel.
Because of course it had been alive. In a sense, they were all alive. Sailors talked of them like they were alive, gave them names, called them “she.”
Sailors knew they were alive.
It was the cessation of that life that interested her.
The necromancer reached out with her power, seized the mind in her hands and pulled, blood and foam flecking out the corners of her mouth as she ground her teeth together with the titanic effort and ordered it to obey.
The sea roiled, hundreds of tons of water moving fast as something deep below boiled to the surface.
A bowsprit sprouted from the water. Then a wood-rotted figurehead of a mermaid. Then inch by inch, yard by yard, the huge barnacle-encrusted bulk of silt-stained timber rose out of the deep, seawater streaming out of every gunport.
For a moment the warship hung in the air like a monstrous fish held by the gills by a colossal fisherman. It dropped into the sea; the little rowboat lurched in its wake.
The necromancer released the spell. Then she threw up, and passed out.
———
Later, once she had woken up, gathered together the tackle box, the lantern, the map and had scrabbled aboard, the necromancer inspected the undead ship.
There was a hole in the hull where a magazine charge had exploded. This was, admittedly, fine. Undead men could walk with a hole in their bellies; an undead ship could sail with one as well.
Really, she thought, despite the discomfort the spell had worked masterfully.
It was a perfect start.
She unfolded the map on the soggy floor of the quarterdeck, sucked the end of a pen, and next to the last marker wrote “Total success.” Then her finger began to trace down the page to the next.
And the undead ship — unbidden and obedient — shifted its sails and began to move south.
slightly furious reminder that fish do in fact feel pain and do in fact experience fear and distress when in pain since people seem to love spreading the myth that fish don't feel pain. what is it with people assuming a creature is incapable of feeling pain or emotion just because it doesn't have complex facial muscles. come on gang
As my main income, I work with fish in a specialty pet store that's privately owned (so I'm allowed to say no and be stern to customers when it's needed).
You learn really quickly that not only do fish have individual personalities and emotions but they also have memories and recognize people! There are certain fish who will only come out for me and hide for everyone else. The pufferfish spits at me because she gets pissy that I haven't fed her. The flowerhorn bites everyone but me and my coworker when we clean his tank. I trained a fire eel to come up and eat directly out of my hand.
Fish are beautiful complex creatures and I thank the universe everyday that I get to work in a place where I'm encouraged to tell animal abusers to fuck right off.

So about a week ago or so I've come to notice a vague and intimidating presence encroaching on me while I was doing certain activities, who I have taken to calling the sex pest because I do not perceive him ever otherwise. Yeah it's just me, no one else. Gee I wonder who that could be.
