Imagine your ship detects another, impossibly smaller vessel and you meet a cosmic horror that is kind despite its wrong amount of limbs, loud insides, two senses you do not have (sight and smell) and one impossibly enhanced (touch), a being that is kind no matter the horrific way it moves, its weird garments and inability to retain all information.

Imagine you get to know that being and you tell it about your forever asleep crew and it lets liquid fall from its weird organs assigned to an extra sense and it apologises to you for their foreversleep as if it were its fault.

Imagine the relief you feel when the cosmic horror explains to you a concept called radiation and that it was it that caused your people to fall into foreversleep and that the life that you were sent to find a way to destroy is what saved you from foreversleep because that means it is no disease you can spread so you canreturn to your mate.

Imagine it telling you about its own crew, in foreversleep too and you ask about the other cosmic horrors because the being asked about your comrades and offered you a space to mourn them.

Imagine learning there were only two others sent with the cosmic horror.

Imagine learning that there were only three altogether.

Imagine the horror, because there were 23 of you partially to find the solution faster but also because the inability to have a proper thrum is something no Eridian has ever had to experience.

Imagine learning that the horror has been as alone as you and that it will live far shorter than you and that it will be away from its kin for one tenth of its life, while in you will be gone for maybe 6%.

Imagine spending a century alone, because that's how long it would be in your life.
