Itâs deeply fucked that, in lifeguard training, they never told us that some women have underwires.
I would have freaked out upon finding a metal wire in the clothes I was cutting, and worried it was some sort of electrical thing.
Not just that, but like⌠we didnât even know how boobs worked? Like, some lifeguards I met thought that âyou canât do cpr on women with big boobs because thereâs too much boobâ. We didnât even know that some womenâs boobs fell out to the side and opened the chest enough for normal compressions.
Like duh these things are stupid and obvious NOW, but when youâve got a group of 19-20 year old dudes who have never seen a boob or bra before? There will be moments of hesitation at every instance of an unfamiliar circumstance, and if that even adds up to SEVEN seconds, the odds of that person living drop hugely.
There NEED to be defined and taught protocols for how to deal with these things.
The same goes for fat people!
But for women specifically⌠theyâre FIFTY PERCENT OF THE WORLD! Iâm not saying that a bunch of 19-20 year old virgins need to be show boobs. Iâm just saying that an informational packet on bras, how boobs inhibit compressions, and how to place IED pads onto a woman would be a HUGE move to getting lifeguards and CPR trainees to be more capable at saving women.
Because I am damn near certain that as a 19 year old who had no idea what boobs acted like, or how bras were made, there would have been appreciable harm caused by hesitation and uncertainty were I to have had to save a largr chested woman via compressions.
