I think it was Magdalena's advice to lie to the guild which made Jindra really stop and think about what he was getting himself into, to consider whether taking on ownership of a forge this far from home (a monumental thing!) was really what he wanted.
And it wasn't. It was what Martin wanted.
So he asks about the other apprentices she'd mentioned. Does she know where they'd ended up? She doesn't, but here's where I can insert her suggestion to go find Boris. Jindra introduces himself, they talk about Martin, then comes the mention of Standa (the name he'd been looking for) and sending him on to the other guild members for any information about where Standa ended up. From there, he heads down to the mines, asks Standa if he'd be willing to take the trial (with Jindra handling the fee and restoration of the building), resolves his debt, returns to the city with him.
They go to see Bushek together, who's curious to know why this out-of-towner is so invested in that forge. Jindra introduces himself as Martin's stepson, Bushek has the same funny anecdote about Martin's nickname. He goes to discuss Standa's trial with the guild leaders and tells them to be at the hall the next morning.
Jindra waits in the guild's common area while Standa's with the other masters. Jindra offers that he'll also take on Magdalena's jointure – at least until Standa has a steady income.
Then, it's back to Hoprink. The two of them work through the mess, find the clock schematic.
