If it wasn’t for Neil, Billy could and would love more. But it has all been beat out of him, scared to ever even think of the things he wants to. Daily life is a masquerade, him in a lion’s mask, the rest surrounding him those of lambs.

It was a long way to the top of the food chain, but even greater would the fall be, if it was that anyone dared threaten his role at the top of the school’s hierarchy. 

Which - perhaps unintentionally - one Steve Harrington attempts purely by existing. Those deep brown eyes that sees past the mask of the still freshly crowned king disturbs Billy on such a ground-shaking level that it is do or die, whether either of them wants to or not, a battle is brewing between the two, and Billy, no matter his pains in life, is not ready to give up.

Wizards Hearts was a four-month-long Drarry reading fest. Players were given a playing deck of 52 tropes, and were asked to find 52 different fics to read and comment on to fill their decks. To prevent the same few fics from being read, fics were restricted to only being used for the game three times before being considered ineligible for further points. Hi anon! Ahh yes I don’t usually go for hardcore BDSM but am very much here for Dom/sub undertones in fics that explore those dynamics in a more organic, subdued way. He thinks he is an unpresented, until eating more meals with his flatmate causes his Omega nature to develop. Alpha John is besotted with him, but Sherlock just doesn’t understand relationships. Relative Incandescence by sweetcupncakes, 35 k, explicit. Omegaverse. This story somehow manages to be funny, lyrical, sweet, a biting social commentary on the secondary status of breeders, and incandescently hot all in the same breath. Sherlock is a hidden Omega until suppressant medication is made illegal. John, his Alpha flatmate is willing to help him, but not if it means crossing boundaries where he shouldn’t go. Sherlock doesn’t speak human well enough to tell John he loves him until some sweaty coupling has them speaking truth. Brilliant.

A Small Misunderstanding by Hyliare, Omegaverse and tiny peen. 14 k, explicit. This fic takes a slightly different look at Omega Sherlock and Alpha John. The two are bonded, but Sherlock isn’t ready for sex – between worry about his small penis, and his fear of losing control. John lets him explore sex however it feels comfortable for him. Very sweet!

The Pretence of an Unacknowledged Truth by stickleworting, 28 k, explicit. Omega!Sherlock asks Alpha!John to visit at Christmas and pose as his bonded mate to please his family. Of course John wishes it were really true, and actually, so does Sherlock. Kind of sweet, kind of silly. Cute.

Dustfall by AmandaDBone, 19 k, explicit. Classic omegaverse fic. Maroon space dust falls from the sky and creates the new genders later termed alpha and omega. Wonderfully done story as everyone struggles to understand this new phase for humanity. Sherlock is now an omega, and John an alpha, and they dance around each other until they can’t anymore. Well written, good world building, and fabulous sex scenes. Thumbs up!

In a very traditional society, a slightly washed-up Alpha army doctor gets a second chance at life when the Holmes family invites him to dinner to meet their younger son. Sherlock is an odd duck, an Omega who has stubbornly refused all his suitors, and he’s running out of time to make a match.  Big age difference, Sherlock is barely legal and John is middle aged. Sweet.

In this world, omegas are little more than possessions kept enslaved by an alpha elite. When alpha!John discovers that his flatmate, Sherlock, is really an omega on the run from an abusive spouse, he gets drawn into politics that never crossed his mind before. Fic is very thinky, and written with exquisite care.

Omega’s Lament  series by tunteeton, 7 part series. John is an alpha, Sherlock is an omega with a past. John can’t let Sherlock suffer when he finds out Sherlock was bonded as a teenager, then abandoned to ride his increasingly dangerous heats alone.  With Mycroft’s help, they struggle to release Sherlock’s old bond so that he and John might be truly united.  Oh, the angst. Happy ending, but oooh, the feels.

A house in the country by PlainJane, 20 k, explicit. With new “real rape” laws in place, every unbonded omega is at risk, including Sherlock Holmes. Mycroft meddles hiring an alpha, John Watson, to watch over his baby brother. Lots of sentimental moments, super hot alpha/omega sex, and a nice sprinkling of canon with Jim and the pool. Loved it.
