the sounds of the waves crashing was always his favorite,    especially right before dawn when the rest of the world was still asleep.   they’d separated for the night, allowed to find their own source of entertainment and food.   and while it hadn’t taken long to find her, he’d pretend it hadn’t been.   after all, he liked star to think she had some freedom.   and in her own way, she did now that he could completely trust her.   boots tread into the water without care, a small smile spreading as mismatched - hues find and meet her own.   over the years, they’d become dependent on one another, the last of their old tribe, and david realized the importance of.   now that max was gone, he was the head vampire, and there was something serious in that, even if david played it off like there wasn’t.   knees bend, and he drops down to the sand next to, gaze shifting back to the waves.   even though he’d been here for over one - hundred years, it was nice to see something else that was as unchanging as himself   -   and in some ways, he compared himself to.     “  i do.   ”     he says with a small smile, attention shifting back towards.     “   it was about fifty yards down that way.   ”     he motions down the beach with his hand.     “   you were alone and looking at the water.   ”

he’s afraid if he lets go, the boy may disappear.     while laddie had grown, there’s still something familiar in the eyes as they look back at him.   and in some strange way, it brings everything back to him.   dwayne, paul, marko.    even the memories of max come flooding back and it almost knocks david off his footing.   though composure remains, there’s a hard swallow that causes adam’s apple to bob in his throat.   while he couldn’t relate, he couldn’t help but be curious.   after all, they should be around the same age now, laddie even a couple of years older at this point.   a thought that david couldn’t help but find incredibly amusing.     “   liked ?   ”     there’s a momentary pause.   how many years had it been since he’d seen the other ?   he adds it up in his head and quickly comes to the realization that what stands before him doesn’t quite add up.   the corners of his lips twitch before pulling upward, an amused laugh leaving david’s lips as his fingers tighten around the other’s shoulder.     “   tell me, laddie   .   .   .   how old are you now ?   ”

perhaps it was the shock of all that had just transpired,     but david gives little in response to the blatant sarcasm of.   instead, he stands there blinking for a moment before mismatched - hues drift down to the offering held in his direction.   he was wise enough to know it wasn’t just a cigarette, the smell was enough to give that away.   and he stares at it momentarily before black boots crunch against the leaves as he makes his way towards.     “   it’s a threat.   ”     he says after a moment, fingers reaching to pull the joint from her own before bringing it up to his lips.   he’d gone through his own stash quicker than he’d like to admit, and was relying on trading with other counselors just to ensure he made it through the summer without losing his mind.   he takes a hit from, holding the smoke in his chest as head tilts back, the shadow of the sun and the trees covering his face like a mask.   he’s reached divinity in that moment, and he savors it before eventually, he exhales as eyes drift back down towards.     “   this is all real sweet, but you need to get back to camp.   ”

no matter how he sits, he’s uncomfortable.     leg swinging over the arm of the wheelchair before he leans forward, heels of boots pressing into the gravel below as he drags them against.   it’s avoidance at best, a small nod of the head the only response given as hands slide down to the wheels of the old wheelchair.   pads of fingers brush over the spokes of the wheels, thumbs tracing over the metal frame of as his gaze drifts back over to the younger of the pair.   he should have known marko would latch on to the words and figure him out.   the thought causes a small smile to spread on david’s lips momentarily before it all but disappears with a small breathy laugh.     “   you’d be correct in thinking that, marko.   ”     he gives little else to appease the other, rolling forward in the wheelchair before coming to an abrupt halt in front of.     “   remember when max said we were getting too reckless, that we needed to reel it in a bit ? well, apparently he’s got a new idea to fix that   .   .   .   get the picture ?   ”

there’s a pretend interest of.     head nodding slowly as his hand continues to twist loosely around the handle of his bike.   while the cassette player did pique some interest, he knew he could have it for his own if he just lured the other away.   one snap of his hands, one puncture of his teeth, and he could have anything he wanted.   but he’s taken aback by the invite, a small smile creeping to form upon pale features as blue hues lift to meet with those of the stranger.     “   are you any good ?   ”     he smirks, poking fun at the other as his hand drops down to his thigh.   the concerts on the boardwalk weren’t always his style, it really depended on what was being played.   but where bands came, groupies went.   and maybe, this would work out better for him than he thought.      “   what instrument do you play ?   ”

nothing good happens in the concealment of night,    though david was unafraid of what stood before.   after all, he could sense the other was skittish, and maybe that’s why he stuck around for longer than he would like.   he always found it so amusing how scared humans would get when faced with a little danger.      “   well   .   .   .   ”     he glances back over his shoulder, to the car parked on the side of the street.     “   for one, i’ll get out of your way.   ”     there’s a smugness to the way he holds himself, to the way he speaks.   and a wide smile forms before arms move up to cross over his chest.     “   and two . . . you look like you need some help.   ”     there’s a laugh paired with the second reply, amused at how hard dragging a body seemed to be for the other.   david had carried things much heavier in his lifetime, and it would be a swift move if the other just gave in to his kindness.     “   come on, piggy. don’t just stand there. you never know who might be watching.   ”     shoulder rolls against brick, torso pulling from before he takes a step back.      “   clock’s ticking. the longer you take to make your decision, the higher chance you have of getting caught.   ”
