god it would be awesome if the human brain could just ignore an upsetting thing instead of constantly wandering back to it for no fucking reason
Antidepressants are sinister little creations. Why are my only options to either get no sleep because I took them before bed or be unbearably nauseous all day because I took them in the morning.
i think we should start openly mocking male creatives who can't figure out how to write women. like actually i think it's embarrassing that it took elliot page transitioning for christopher nolan to give him a good role. why did it take like ten years to get the first female lead in a marvel movie? why is it a Known Fact that stephen king can't write women? why is 50% of the population omitted from large ensemble works? i asked my friend to name a movie directed by a man with a majority female cast and he said ghostbusters 2016. ghostbusters. ghostbusters. g

Sorry for appearing so off and weird all the time, it's just that it feels like the devil himself has a grip on my ankle and is pulling me closer to hell every single day. Lol!
there is nothing a corporation hates more than having employees, but a close second is having to provide a good or service in order to make money. these two reasons concisely explain is why the ai bubble formed in the first place.

When I was a little boy, girls used to just do random cartwheels for no reason. Then one day, they stopped. Now that I am a man, no women randomly do cartwheels. This is because society is evil and killed the cartwheel impulse in their soul. They don't even spin horizontally anymore. It's fucked up.
the thing about obsession is that every single aspect of the dynamic between bear and nikki forced anything that was hard, any aspect of burden, onto her. even before the wish.
she calls him (iirc) to talk about why he wasnāt at work and their plans for the bar. instead of being honest or emotionally vulnerable with her because it would be uncomfortable for him, he doesnāt tell her why heās not coming out until later (seemingly off-screen). for the duration of their phone call, she is the one giving up vulnerable information and throwing out the rope to express she wants to hang out with him.
when theyāre at the bar and he tries to pay, he hands her the card. i donāt actually want him to have paid bc nikki didnāt want him to, but he very easily could have handed the bartender his card instead if he really had much intention. instead, it (imo) functions as a brief symbol; even when heās trying to do something āniceā, he still hands that symbol of responsibility over to her to have to deal with.
when heās too scared to tell her how he feels and instead tries to neg her, it instead forces her into the position of feeling the need to be really direct and ask if he likes her.
his wish, made in frustration, also puts all the burden on her; he could have simply wished she knew how he felt, but instead he wishes that she loved him, and emphasizes the very weighty burden of āmore than any one in the fucking worldā (which i donāt think was poor syntax on his part. i think he meant it like that). this wish forces wish nikki to be the one to start initiating and showing interest, even kissing him first. bc while he wants this from nikki, he never wants to have to make the first move for fear of being rejected.
when heās confronted with reality that real nikki is suffering hearing her screams over the phone, he hears what heās putting her through and just⦠does nothing. i donāt even mean that he doesnāt do anything to help her (though that too, since at this point he knows his death would free her) or that he hangs up (though how quickly he does is gross) bc he has to hang up at some point. itās that he doesnāt even express regret or acknowledgement that itās fault. an āiām so sorry nikkiā wouldnāt have even begun to make up for it, but the fact that he couldnāt even do that? it was just all about how it made him feel. and then he just⦠goes along with life. knowing the torment sheās being put through because of him, however one interprets what that torment was.
wish nikki also expends (in deeply strange ways, bc she doesnāt know how to be what he wants from her) a lot of energy trying to do things for him. she cuts his hair, makes lunch. and itās the weirdness of the way she does those things that freaks him out, not the fact that sheās apparently trying to serve him in ways real nikki never has before and wouldnāt if she had a choice. if wish nikki had cut his hair while he was awake and had given him a normal lunch, he wouldnāt have caredāif anything, i think heād have liked it. heās perfectly content to eat the lunch before he knows what it is.
when wish nikki is watching him sleep and freaks out in the night because she didnāt like her dreams (presumably real nikkiās nightmares), and starts watching him sleep, he doesnāt actually do anything to comfort her. he just tells her to come back to bed. and the next morning, when heās expressing that it freaked him out, wish nikki tries to literally perform happiness for him with that smile and ask how it is.
speaking of that lunch: real nikki is also put through the burden of trying to show him itās not really her with the pictures and notes āyou. not me.ā she has to do this seemingly unaware that he already knows.
at the party, when theyāre playing a drinking game, bear SO easily could have just taken a drink when the card said to kiss the person on his left. iād have to go and check, but iām pretty sure his bottleās even already open. he could also choose to say heās not kissing someone else, the game be damned, even if that one sip of a beer he was already holding was just too much. (yes i have seen the āwell he doesnāt like the taste of alcoholā defense yes i hate it.) and instead he just⦠waits for wish nikki to freak out, make a scene, and allows her to do all this in a way i feel sure would be deeply degrading to the real nikki.
also at the party, when wish nikki freaks everyone out, it puts both her and real nikki in the position of having to defend herself to their friends. āiām just kidding guysā vs. āitās not meā! itās for different reasons ā real nikki is also crying out for help - but the same general prinicipal applies. bear says and does nothing to help.
they both are forced to fight each other for control while, again, bear sits there and does nothing until nikki smashes herself with a bottle (itās unclear to me whether this is real nikki trying to hurt herself or wish nikki trying to stop her) and itās only at the continued insistence of everyone else he eventually takes her to the hospital.
the scene of wish nikki on her knees, sobbing and insisting she can be whatever he wants her to be while knowing she canāt, happens because that is what he has shown her he wants. all of her unreciprocated effort in a task that is impossible for her to live up to. and when real nikki seems to lunge for him (rightfully so), itās wish nikki doing the work to hold her back rather than him making any substantial move to protect himself.
and while i think it would have been horrifyingly bleak for him to kill real nikki before or even when she literally begs him, itās also horrifying that he canāt even find it in him to put her out of her misery and put his ego aside. she is begging for him to KILL her, she has to ask him for this one bare scrap to show he cares anything at all about her or what she wants or her suffering. and not only will he not do it, he makes it all about his own feelings. āwhat would be so bad? whatās so bad about being with me?ā in this moment she is literally begging him to KILL her because of what heās done to her, he responds with a question that puts weight on her to emotionally soothe his ego.
when wish nikki kills sarah, she has to convince him to help her start to dispose of her body.
and even once he finally decides to die, you get the sense that itās less because heās trying to save her and more because heās reached his breaking point. and even then, he canāt go through with it. heās going to throw the pills up, and the only thing that stops him is wish nikki using her own OWW, presumably to make him love her the same way she loves him.
and the fuck of it all is that it doesnāt end when bear dies and wish nikki is gone and real nikki is in full control again. she wakes up covered in blood and with bearās dead body in her lap, her own body forced to have killed their other two friends. her life, more than likely, is ruined, because even outside of the horrific trauma sheāll always be dealing with, bear dying, while it freed her, still left her completely alone to deal the aftermath. after all that, sheās probably going to jail for a chain of events he caused and she had no say in.
bear wanted the power to make nikki love him, but he wanted none of the actual responsibility of a relationship between equal partners (obviously.) even in a relationship bear literally forced by wishing for it, nikki still had to do and suffer the burden of literally everything.

I'll be anything you want me to be. Obsession (2026)
Psych is such a weird show bc in a lot of ways it's constantly asking, "can you forgive your father? even tho he could never forgive you, can you forgive him?" and the thing he could never forgive you for was not meeting his exact very specific expectations. And the answer keeps being yes you can, because not doing so is worse. You tried and it hurt more. You tried and it made you more miserable. You forgive him because he's all you have most of the time, and its somehow less complicated than whatever you have going on with your mom. You can forgive him but you can't forget, and then one day he realizes that he was wrong and there was nothing he should have taken as a slight about you, but you both just never acknowledge this paradigm shift in your relationship bc it'd be more awkward then fighting again for the millionth time. So things get better but you never say why, you never acknowledge it unless forced and somehow you forgive him more than your mom who you were never even half as mad at.
But also it's about breaking and entering into sea world and making a janitor think you killed your best friend so you can escape, it's about gaslighting your coworkers into thinking you are the dumbest man alive, it's about only closing a mystery when it's as funnt as possible and making sure everyone else around you is as baffled as possible. It's about childhood and nostalgia and growing up in the most chaotic way you can. It's about people being killed with a t-rex skull, it's about slapstick and committing to the bit and being the silliest messiest bisexual on tv in 2006-2014.
It's about a son and his father and forgiveness and somehow also they are in a circus tent trying to find out why a corpse was launched from a cannon. And also there's an extended musical episode that makes it onto my personal Spotify year after year
marriage of convenience buddie you are so dear to me and now you're almost canonically within my reach... eddie is not a step dad, he's the dad who stepped up -> married his best friend, platonically, because buck's odds of adopting theo the orphan would be way higher if he's coupled up. hence, the marriage. teamwork! i don't know how the american legal system works. anyway, they all move in together. chris allows it to happen because his room at buck's house is bigger than his old one. theo is delighted (even though his parents are dead) because he thinks eddie is the best thing since strawberry sour patch kids. buck has to share his bed with his pretend husband who's actually his real husband and he dies a thousand deaths every night. eddie's the happiest he's ever been because he got to lock buck down without having to confess ANYTHING. life is beautiful
Sameen Shaw going through life thinking there's something wrong with her because she doesn't feel the way other people do, Sameen Shaw getting kicked out of residency because of her personality disorder and becoming a government assassin because it's a way to protect people that requires you to not be able to feel emotions, Sameen Shaw learning that both Root and the Machine love her for exactly who she is and don't want to change her
Something that never ever gets old for me is how PoI consistently redirects Reese's violence from the normal, crueler things we're used to seeing from action protagonists. The most obvious thing is him kneecapping people instead of killing them, of course, but it's a constant bit throughout the show.
You see him with blowtorch and someone he needs to get information out of, but then he starts burning the guy's money instead and it's just as effective. He tells people that he has a dangerous substance (acid, nitroglycerin, etc.) and then takes advantage of their panic when he throws what's actually water or corn syrup or something on them. He got kidnapped by a dirty cop? He shoots the cop only AFTER making sure the cop is wearing his bulletproof vest. He's in a life or death struggle with an agent sent to kill him? He intentionally stabs the guy in such a way that he can get to the hospital for treatment *if* he leaves Reese alone, and he tells the agent this. He has a disgusting abusive US Marshal tied up in his trunk. Does this mean murder is inevitable?? Nope! He's gonna dump him in a Mexican prison!
It's so refreshing to see these exercises in restraint, because so often the Dark Brooding Hero has no mercy and leaves a wake of death and torture that we just choose not to think about. Yeah, John Reese leaves a wake of chaos and property damage and business for orthopedic surgeons, but he's not a murderer anymore, and that's the whole point.

person of interest is an insane show. god is real. she is a system of computer networks and cameras across the world. everybody is gay. all cops are dirty. the government is lying to you, muderous, and somehow effective, which we all know it isn't. murder! so much murder! gay bookworm. main character holds lesbian hostage to stop her from communicating with god, the computer. oh and there's a dutch killer dog.
I thought this was going to be a run-of-the-mill crime procedural with an interesting but underdeveloped AI side plot, but instead I found a gripping serialised thriller about the dangers of mass surveillance, the corruption of the government, and three of the best characters i have ever seen on tv
