𝜗ৎ training with bakugou storytime
aka the one time i swallowed my pride, inserted myself into his training session, and got humbled in like 5 seconds.
so this started because i overheard kiri talking about how he and bakugou were planning to stay in the dorms over the weekend to spar without quirks. just going over pure fundamentals, hand to hand combat, reflexes, body control, physical strength, etc.
and immediately i got fomo.
i’m usually in the dorms over the weekends anyway, and half the time i’m just doing my own thing, so i asked kiri if i could join. obviously he said yes. and then i told him very explicitly, do NOT tell bakugou i’m coming because i know for a fact he’d cancel or tell me to fuck off.
my real motive was honestly just to watch bakugou train. his reflexes are insane, his control over his body is insane, and i wanted to see how he actually moves when he’s not using his quirk. i wanted to figure him out and maybe pick up a couple of stuff. he’s pretty stingy when it comes to his strategies and tactics so this is like gaining exclusive backstage vip tickets.
the next day comes, and of course bakugou is already there at the ass crack of dawn as usual. so kiri and i walk to the training grounds together, just chatting like normal, everything’s chill, had a really good chat with him on the way there.
the moment we step into the room and bakugou sees me, the entire mood grows cold.
he immediately starts going off on kiri and i. yelling out stuff like “why the fuck is she here? i told you not to invite anyone. she’s just going to be a bother.” blah blah blah.
i just ignore him and say i’m here to watch, i promised not to interfere and not to get in the way. spoiler, i lied.
anyway, he looks like he wants to kick me out so bad, but kiri drags him away and somehow convinces him to just let me stay. god bless kiri, love that guy to bits. so bakugou begrudgingly allowed me to sit at the sidelines and watch them.
so i sit there, and i observe.
meanwhile, they’re locked the fuck in.
for the next hour they’re just going at it. sparring, drilling, grappling, exchanging blows, pushing each other nonstop. it was actually insane to watch. bakugou moves so fast, but it’s not just speed, it’s precision. everything he does is intentional, it’s really crazy to see up close like this and without disruption from his distracting ass quirk.
at one point, i just started narrating my thoughts out loud and it ended up turning into full on commentary.
i was calling things out, pointing out openings, telling kiri what to do because from the outside i could see things he couldn’t. at one point bakugou lost his footing slightly and i immediately told kiri to go for his legs.
after awhile of me yapping and basically feeding kiri strategies, bakugou SNAPS and tells me to shut the fuck up.
and for some reason, i decided to be bold that day.
so i snapped back and told him something along the lines of, “if i can sit here and see your openings, a villain can too.”
ragebait successful, LMAO.
he got sooo pissed he immediately challenged me to fight him, which lowkey was my sneaky plan all along because i know he wouldn’t fight me even if i asked politely.
so obviously i said yes to his offer. i mean, he’s insisting at this point so it would be rude of me to decline anyway.
and WOW!! haha! he really does NOT go easy!! at all!!
the moment we start, he rushes me instantly and i get knocked back before i can even process what just happened. my back hit the mat so fast it took me a hot second to realise i was already down.
we kept going for a bit, and for one very brief moment i thought i had the upper hand.
and then suddenly i’m in a headlock and i literally cannot BREATHE. i can’t even remember how i ended up like that. everything happened so freaking fast.
so i tapped out after that and gave him that win. (haha “gave”, as if i had a chance to begin with. anyway.)
i left that fight with my ego bruised, my lower back even more bruised.
the next day i had this massive bruise across my lower back and it hurt like hell for a whole week. it sucked real bad.
but i did learn something from that fight!!
which is that bakugou doesn’t fight dirty.
a lot of people wait for their opponent to slip up. they take advantage of hesitation, distraction, weakness.
bakugou doesn’t wait for moments like that.
he forces you into making mistakes. he pressures you until your breathing gets uneven, your footing gets sloppy, your reactions get delayed. he overwhelms you so hard that the “opening” doesn’t come from luck, it comes from you breaking under pressure.
everything he does is so deliberate.
nothing he does is random. every movement is calculated, every step is placed, every hit is meant to push you somewhere, physically or mentally. he’s not just fighting your body, he’s dismantling your rhythm, your confidence, your composure.
it felt like i was constantly one step behind him, like he was already anticipating what i was going to do before i even fully committed to it.
and that’s when it really clicked for me.
he doesn’t just win fights because he’s strong, he wins because he controls the pace, the space, and the entire flow of the fight.
and once you fall into his tempo, it’s basically over. he basically already won.
this fight really humbled me so bad, but at the same time it made me realise how much further i have to go.
i realise i glaze bakugou a lot on here, which is honestly so annoying, but he really is that good at what he does.
i know canon emphasises it a lot, but seeing it in person, and being his peer, is a completely different experience. it’s one thing to admire him from the outside, it’s another to stand next to him and feel like you’re constantly trying to catch up to something you can’t quite reach.
and it’s not even that i think i’m incompetent on my own, but being around him just amplifies that feeling.
there’s so much more i can learn from him. if only he wasn’t a gigantic asshole.
he literally sits behind me every day. at this point you’d think i’d earn at least basic tolerance, maybe even acquaintance status.
