ivar stenberg w/ frölunda & the swedish men's worlds team this season
LETS BRING BACK 1337 SPEAK
why do i even try
I THoUGHT YOU MEANT THE YEAR
my l0rd, t3h p34s4nt5 4r3 r3v01t1ng! W3 mu5t s411y f0rth 4g41n5t th3m 4thw1th!
Happy ten years of being so old no one knows what 1337 is
it is like talking to a fucking g3n13 with you people
You can tell I modelled a lot of my personality after Skulduggery Pleasant because I too say "ah" and not much else when faced with devastating new revelations
scouring the internet for any crumbs of information about newest baby shark Ivar Stenberg - my skillset sadly does not include adding subtitles to videos, but here are some random tidbits from this video from 2025:
they interview his roadie roommate (Christian Folin, 35yo) who says Ivar likes to talk about hockey (big surprise). He appreciates hearing Ivar's perspective, says he "knows his stuff" (aka nerd)
it is apparently a well known fact that Ivar loves burgers (not the first interview this has been brought up)
Ivar talks very fondly of playing with his brothers, he and his younger brother Knut used to gang up on their older brother Otto because of the size diference. these days it's every man for himself.
as the stereotypical hockey family, they play a lot of golf - Ivar describes it as "war" (competitive much? lol)
he watches lots of hockey highlights (again, such a nerd)
pretty much his entire life revolves around hockey, but he tries to disconnect with video games and watching other sports
he has friends in his hometown who doesn't play but "they know a lot about hockey because I play" (I just found this very cute)
Frölunda's coach describes him as ambitious, easy to coach, and always very happy
coach also describes him as "self-critical in a good way". thinks the main thing he needs to develop before playing in north america is more of a "killer instinct mindset" (basically "stop being so humble and shoot more yourself")
everyone makes him sound really humble and introverted, but teammate/friend Max Westergård who is a similar age also describes him as "very kind, but a bit hot-headed sometimes"
describes all the media attention as "mostly fun but sometimes it gets a bit much" (imo the "fun" part doesn't sound very convincing to me so hard to say what is his honest opinion and what is just learned media approved answers) and mentions specifically that it doesn't just affect him but also people around him
Ivar clearly appreciates that he can direct all media inquiries to Frölunda's press manager, describes him as "a real bro" (aka, his knight in shining armour)
interests: hockey, golf, food. and then he specifies that he means eating food, but then immediatly goes "no, now I sound like a..." and just aborts the question lol
talks about growing up near the sea, he likes fishing and going out by boat, and eating fish (and then he lists lots of different seafood he likes, makes me wonder if there's anything he doesn't eat...)
likes challenges and competitions
gets asked if he was that kid in school who was just effortlessly good at any sport and answers "nah, maybe when I was younger". when he has to pick a favorite sport/activity from PE he goes with volleyball
my youtube algorithm is now 90% swedish wjc26 team, so I might as well continue spreading the Stenberg crumbs... this time from this video (also from 2025) with both Otto and Ivar:
the hockey nerds are back, lots of fun hockey collectibles in their parents house (even though both of them have moved out). soooo many caps, and plenty of sticks and jerseys and pucks etc.
Ivar has (among others) one of Rasmus Dahlin's sticks that he got from Rasmus' dad who coached him on a previous team - he is obviously a big fan of Dahlin
the competitive golf stories are back, they chirp each other for being sore losers. apparently it's worse when they play golf compared to hockey; "someone always plays badly, and then it derails". Ivar claims Otto is the worst loser because he sulks for like 20 minutes, Otto says Ivar and Knut are worse because they yell and throw clubs, to which Ivar responds "but that only lasts for 30 seconds"
emotional support headwear confirmed, Ivar says not wearing a cap is "the worst thing there is"
if it had somehow escaped your notice before: Ivar really admires and looks up to his brother. he talks about how helpful it has been to learn from him and watch him work hard, and being able to ask him questions and get tips etc.
when asked about the draft Ivar says if he could pick nhl team he would like to play with his brother
the reporter suggests a shootout competition between the brothers, and Ivar's immediate response is "if you dare"
they talk about juggling hockey and school, Otto graduated upper secondary school (sort of the swedish equivalent of high school?? -ish), and Ivar managed to keep up until he started playing in the SHL. at the time of the interview (probably summer of '25?) he sounds very unsure about whether he'll continue or not, but says hockey is the priority right now (I've seen a later interview where he says he's still technically in school but "I've only been there like 5 times this year")

all that remains
with all the celebrini crosby comparisons it kills me that their team rosters are on polar opposite sides of the nhl age demographic
one one hand you have the pens, a bunch of oldheads and kindy—their one little adopted puppy that they’re constantly endeared by
and then on the other there’s the sharks, which is just poor old tyler toffoli and his 14 million gremlin children who bully him on his own wife’s podcast
I just watched the entire video this is sourced from, and he really is just an awkward introvert like the rest of us! handles it like a champ though, I could never keep that calm while:
being mic'd up so he has to actually talk at practice,
parking a car while someone is filming,
trying to sell a random item to a stranger on the street for a challenge (he takes a can of NOCCO from his car and sells it to a guy he knows from school lol)
