Fandoms stopped being a fun escape from reality when people started spreading the belief that you should prioritize purity over pleasure and the art you create must be a reflection of your moral standards at all times.

Readers who attack authors because they didin't read the tags and found something in their story they didn't like.

Seen quite a few comments in the style of

"I will find you and you wont like that"

As if is not allowed people to express their imagination and needs to be filtered and controlled.

pretty sure "I will find you and you wont like that" counts as harassment and a threat, which is against ao3’s terms of service (assuming this is about ao3), so they can and should be reported accordingly. and thankfully, ao3 takes harassment very seriously, and they act pretty fast when a comment is rightfully reported.

there’s a special place in hell for people who think fanfics are written to please them and their personal comfort / liking. even if no specific warnings were tagged, if an author used “creator chose not to use archive warnings” then that was already enough according to ao3’s tos.

so. yeah. fanfics are first and foremost for the authors’ enjoyment. fanfic writers don’t owe anyone anything. and I genuinely don’t think these people deserve to read fanfics, much less for free.
