Is that they had so many “safer” options and still chose to make it explicitly LGBTQIA+ in a natural way.

Like they could’ve just done a sims and omitted any limitations on the mii’s attraction functions to begin with. A “there! Your miis can like anyone! Same sex attraction added via the technicality of everyone being pan!” Solution. Which most would’ve accepted.

But they took it a step further and said “we’re letting you choose the finer details of your mii’s interiority.” They let you pick what each mii is attracted to! Bi, pan, gay or straight you can make them it!

Which not only allows it them to be a lot more personalised? But also allows for Aromantic characters who aren’t attracted to anyone! Which wouldn’t be possible if they just took it out of the players hands and made attraction general.

Same with there being a distinct and named Nonbinary option. They could have so easily just snuck in a vague genderless option where if you didn’t select a gender your mii would default to they/them.

But no it’s not hidden away. It’s firmly one of the options. The mii is nonbinary not just nebulously neutral.

It stops it feeling like a “queer by technicality” afterthought. They were thinking of us. They had us in mind when implementing these.

We are just as deserving of thought and consideration in the media crafting process as anyone else.

We matter enough to be directly thought of.
