but in my experience 95% of my hallucinations are getting spooked by very clearly hearing someone knocking on my door or calling my name from another room or hearing footsteps walking behind me which are "just" my brain recreating the horror of an abusive childhood

media and pop culture hypes up psychosis a lot as The Worst That Can Happen out of sanism, so even when you try and filter that cultural bias out you still assume it's based on something

when, no, psychosis is actually very simple: it's just hyperactive pattern matching. it's your brain's signal-to-noise ratio being off balance, it's seeing images in random static. it's not always this special uniquely big thing, it's in fact quite mundane a lot of the time.

no one is immune to psychosis, it's not purely the realm of the insane. anyone is one bad night of sleep or one bad case of food poisoning or one bad fever away from being just like me on my worst days.

"I raised cisgender heterosexual Black boys (and mentored dozens of Black boys) who do not hate women, queer folks, trans folks, or themselves. I am a brilliant teacher, a dedicated parent, a tireless mentor, and a deep reader. I read a book and 5-7 journal articles every week, and I have sustained that practice for the last decade. I am not moved by patriarchy's pull. We will confront every system of violence that targets Black people, or you will be dismissed. I will not sit idly by. Here is a slide from my dissertation defense, which I defended five years ago, but the urgency I named is prescient now."

"As a young activist, so much of my life was about performative perfectionism. As an adult activist and organizer, I have been confronted with building the worlds we imagine-the real challenge. Please take time to heal. Recharge and fight again later. You need your energy for the many fights ahead.

Mothering wisdom taught me to recognize this world for what it is and navigate it with care for vulnerable bodies and in solidarity with those on the margins. I want to be, what Alexis Pauline Gumbs calls, community accountable. Community accountability has often guided my praxis and communal exchanges. I want to demonstrate that I honor space with other marginalized and oppressed people. If this has not been clear, I stand in complete solidarity with Black, Brown, and all oppressed people actively working to dismantle all systems of violence. This means that the life-and-death of Black cis women, cis men, trans women, trans men, and non-binary people are not an inconveniences, derailments, or perversions of the larger Black freedom struggle. As Assata noted, "It is our duty to fight for our people!" Moreover, this duty is now even more imperative than ever. We cannot sit by idly, as our siblings are slaughtered by cops, by John's [sex work patrons], by romantic partners, and by vigilantes. We should protect them in life and venerate them in death."

Over 90% of parents of visibly intersex children opt for cosmetic surgery on their infants.

The ones that don't experience medical violence then, likely experience it as a teenager.

I didn't.

I am very rare in that I did not experience medical violence.

Why? Because I learned what intersexuality was as a young age, and I actively fought against what doctors wanted to do to me. All the way down to legal research on what medical care minors can be forced into. I remember walking into that doctor's appointment with the state law written down that proved that if I did not consent they could not do surgery.
