So Hornblowers reaction to Kennedys death always seemed a bit off to me. Yes he was sad but not as much as you’d expect somebody who just lost his lifelong friend. And while I think this reaction is a lot of COME ON ITS HORATIO WHAT DID YOU EXECT?? And while he also doesn’t allow himself to grief properly I think he also had a lot of time to process it, still in the renown and so I started to imagine a sad Horatio moving from watch to Archie’s sickbed and sometimes back to their quarters, but not to often because that empty bed just had to look dreadful to him. But if he slept there he’d sleep in Kennedys bed so he could grief him without concerning him
