But people with an ounce of compassion aren't heartbroken or crying about his death. They're numb.

Easily preventable deaths happen on a regular basis. Children die in school shootings. Sick people die because they can't afford healthcare. People are killed by police who are fully emboldened and never held accountable. Homeless people freeze or starve to death. LGBT people are killed in hate crimes. There's currently a genocide happening in Palestine. And any attempt to prevent more deaths is met with mockery.

When a compassionate person is constantly bombarded with news about easily preventable deaths, and when they see how little people care, they'd be unable to function if they were in pain every single time. They're pretty much in a state of constant heartbreak and they have to pretend everything's fine. So they become numb.
