Summer: *yearns while at the beach*

Fall: *yearns while sipping pumpkin spice latte*

Winter: *yearns while wearing a comfy sweater*

today, im going to talk to you about a reward system that i actually just used for the first time today, but i think it was very helpful and will continue to be.

this kinda goes back to this post* i made about reward systems and satisfaction. i need satisfaction for the task itself, as external rewards don’t really work.

now, us with ad(h)d tend to get “lost in the weeds”. 

what does that mean? well basically, that we micro-focus on small, usually irrelevant tasks that tend to distract from the big picture. i had just learned about this term but it turns out that i do this all the time. 

what my tip actually is is to use the micro-focus as the reward itself, as a “break” from the hard work. because i don’t know about you all, but i cannot take break, as it will make me lose my roll. im either in work mode or im in chill mode. if i take a break, my brain interprets it as chill mode, and it’s hard to get back into that sweet, sweet hyperfocus (which is why im always surprised that the “take recurring breaks!” system are in so many adhd help articles).

but by micro focusing on whatever insignificant (but related!) thing, you stay in the same work-related mindset, but relax your brain from the difficulty that is the main project 

*dont worry, you don’t need to read it if you don’t feel like it, it was just me talking about how i have a hard time brushing my teeth because there’s just no immediate satisfaction to it, and how the task itself needs to be rewarding rather than giving myself an external reward

idk how many people i’ve known growing up in texas whose parents speak fluent spanish but they don’t speak a lick solely because their parents were afraid or told not to teach their children. it’s unspeakably common and doesn’t in any way shape or form diminish someone’s claim to or pride in their heritage.
