While technically a non-harmful stereotype, the "transmascs love cavetown!" stereotype reaaaaally annoys me. Like no I don't like cavetown, I like metal, punk rock and riot grrrl music 😭
Martin is not kind to people he doesn't know. Or more specifically, to people whose suffering isn't in his immediate vicinity.
I've honestly been debating whether or not to post this, but I think it might be useful to hear. I think, as a fandom, we've gotten better at seeing Martin's cunning side, rather than seeing him as an innocent person who must be protected at all costs. But from what I've observed, most fans tend to characterize Martin as far kinder than he actually is, overlooking a lot of his flaws.
Let me be clear. Martin is absolutely kind to the people he cares about. Most of the actions Martin takes in the story are for Jon's sake, rather than his own. Granted, he can get possessive at times, he has horrible self-worth, and he blames himself for practically everything, but those are different topics.
Martin's whole thing is that he's nice. He's polite and helpful, awkward in a way that's meant to endear himself to you. This is a survival strategy he's developed due to trauma. Ultimately, when interacting with people Martin doesn't know, he's nice, but not kind. He doesn't actually care about these people, even if he pretends that he does out of some sort of moral obligation. And he especially doesn't care about theoretical suffering. I have several examples of this. Spoilers for seasons 4 and 5 of the podcast.
In MAG 158, during the scene between Martin and Jonah in the Panopticon, Jonah remarks that Martin doesn't care about what happens to the rest of the Institute staff. This could be Jonah trying to mess with Martin, but Jonah has always preferred awful truths to lies. And The Lonely only amplifies Martin's sense of indifference. It doesn't manufacture it.
In MAG 187, Jon says that if Martin saw Helen's victims up close, he might try to get Jon to smite her. The key here is that Martin's already aware of Helen's victims. He knows that Helen is evil, but she's helpful and nice, so Martin likes her. Thus, Martin is able to wave away the idea of theoretical people suffering, purposefully ignoring it so it doesn't interfere with his sense of justice. Martin is like Basira in this way.
In MAG 196, we see Martin taking book breaks while walking with Annabelle to Hilltop Road. This is partly to allow Jon to catch up and partly to let the suffering people around him have a break. But when the topic turns to Salesa and his death, we get this conversation.
And that's the crux of the matter. Martin didn't know them, so he's able to wave away the suffering caused by someone he has a positive opinion of. If Martin had simply heard of Jon hunting rather than directly hearing a statement from one of Jon's victims, I doubt he would've interfered.
This all comes to a head in MAG 199. Martin is a firm supporter for spreading the Fears to other realities. However, he only brings up saving the world as an afterthought. His primary concern is and has always been Jon and his well-being. He doesn't want Jon to sacrifice himself, even if thousands of other universes are sacrificed in the process.
Essentially, Martin tries simplifying things into black and white. If something doesn't fit into this framework, he ignores it until it's right in front of him. Martin tries to operate by society's sense of morality, but ends up abandoning it to protect the people he cares about. He's a hypocrite and he knows it. But even if it means dooming everyone else, he'll do whatever it takes to save Jon.
To those that says "Niigo is just 2duos in 1 group" I am genuinely confused as to how one can get into that conclusion if they payed attention to the stories, like have you been reading the stories with your eyes closed?
All of them care for one another and actually has so much dynamic with each other and that saying that they are just dups is just a bit straight up false.
They are all so equally important to each other and we can fully see this during the 3rd rotation and Mizu4 as they all help Mafuyu in different ways (Kanade confronting Mafumom and not leaving Mafuyu's side no matter what, Ena wanting to help Mafuyu and understand her to help her more and also the fact that Ena researched about Mafuyu's symptoms and sent Mafuyu the result to see if it would help her, and Mizuki telling Mafuyu to run away not for anyones sake but hers to save herself)
Also are we forgetting the fact that it was because of Mafuyu that Mizuki finally the courage to tell them(niigo) her secret (seeing Mafuyu tell her father everything), Also there is a reason as to why Kanade always has a trained card in Ena's events, Kanade has always been a source of support for Ena,(heck for all of them), and It was Mizuki that helped Kanade remember her memories and have character development (which apparently most people didn't pay attention to) during Carnation Recollection, and it was Kanade that founded all of them and formed niigo
(Also Mizuki saying to Kanade that she had saved her or atleast her old self as a way to not only comfort Kanade but to tell her how much she had helped her) and there is a reason as to why Mizuena and Kanamafu are the most popular ship (Tho I do prefer KanaMizu)

as someone who is both a fan of TADC and IHNMAIMS I must say that TADC is very, and I mean very loosely based on IHNMAIMS.
Basically the only thing those two stories have In common is that there are a bunch of humans stuck in a place with a rouge ai and everyone involved needs therapy. That’s it.
Caine and AM could not possibly be more different if they tried in motivations, personality and self awareness.
While the two casts personalities are similar in some ways (Jax being sort of like Ted and Ragatha being like Ellen.) the similarities there are very surface level and most of the tadc cast does not have a correlating member of the ihnmaims cast to compare to at all.
the themes and endings are also very different with tadc being a lot more hopeful then ihnmaims.
Just keep this in mind during theory crafting and analysis. Tadc is very loosely inspired by ihnmaims but they are two very different pieces if media with very few similarities

That's what I've been saying! Jax also reflects how paranoid Ted is in that one scene, thinking all the other survivors hate him. Plus, a lot of Jax's sexism is like a very toned down version of how Ted talks about Ellen.
I'm fascinated by the line "don't need to scream if you ain't got a mouth" that Caine delivers in his villain song, because while it's obviously the strongest reference to I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream in the entire show, I think it also starkly illustrates the biggest difference between Caine and AM: that Caine is way, way more vulnerable to criticism.
The original line is delivered by the last human: it's Ted's sad internal lament that he's become unable to even express his pain, which is its own form of psychological horror. It's AM's final, cruelest joke. But here the line is instead delivered BY the AI. Caine did his best to please the humans. But the humans just WON'T stop complaining! And that's torture for him. So rather than listening to them, which would take willingness to reflect and improve, he just takes their mouths away, so they can't complain anymore.
Rather than being a cruelty inflicted on the humans, it reframes the whole line as a way for the AI to protect its ego. It's Caine going "la la la I can't hear you." It's not a clever form of torture, it's just pathetic and childish. Caine's ego is his biggest flaw. And it's what gets him killed.
