i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.

I actually do think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes

Reading comprehension test:
1. Does OP mention an obligation on victims to forgive abusers who have learned from their past actions?
2. Does OP mention any work on the part of victims to educate their abusers?
3. Is there any mention of “redemption” or “forgiveness” at all in this post?
Something about how society cares more about punishing the wicked than about making the world a better place, and how many people really struggle to shake that.

This part of The One Who's Running The Show hits so different now that we know Jax's backstory. She thinks she killed her mother. She never got to find out for sure but Jax pushed, her mother fell and didn't get up, and then Jax fled the scene. And now Caine's putting her on an electric chair--an execution for a murderer. I'm gonna scream aaaaaaaaaa
So many scenes were added more context after learning the backstory in episode 9 but I want to focus on Jax's near-abstraction scene in episode 7.
When episode 7 aired we interpreted this scene as Jax missing Ribbit and Kaufmo. That's still the case with episode 9's backstory but there's more to it.
This was after his fight with Pomni, and it forced him to dredge up old memories and trauma that he'd been supressing ever since his friends abstracted.
The turned-over photographs are another visual representation of Jax's suppression and dissociation. He pretended he didn't care Ribbit and Kaufmo abstracted, and deluded himself with 'All of this isn't real, so what does it matter' to try and get rid of that guilt. But there's still part of him that loved his friends, so the photos were never thrown away.
So at his lowest point Jax turned one face-up. Jax looking at this photo was him acknowledging Ribbit and Kaufmo's existence since they absracted. This was him letting all his repressed feelings out.
And that was probably too much for him because he started seeing Ribbit in the flesh? I guess that was the moment his mind started spiraling. And you know he was spiraling because he was reaching his hand to Ribbit, something he didn't do when she was still alive.
Jax living through all of that and thinking why hasn't he abstracted by now, and it was because of sheer force of repression and dissociation. And the second he opened that door, the second he connected to Ribbit, he was (almost) gone.

AGH NO! ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER!!!
The very best thing about The Phantom of the Opera is that it shows us a possibly supernatural occurrence, then gives us a natural explanation that is infinitely crazier than the supernatural one would have been.
What if there was a ghost in the opera house that was killing people?
Requires you to accept the existence of ghosts, but otherwise is a straightforward story.
What if the chief contractor who built the opera house was a deformed circus freak who used his experience building palaces and torture chambers for sultans to keep building secret passageways and torture chambers in the basement when construction halted during the Franco-Prussian War, and then kept living down there working on an opera and killing and blackmailing people who crossed him and also training a pretty opera singer that he wants to marry?
There is nothing in the world that could have prepared me to expect even half of that.
