Trans women are not men at all. Sure, trans women were assigned male at birth. What does that entail?? Nothing destiny-inducing. Yes, many trans women will have journeys from once thinking they were men, and may refer to themselves as having been raised as boys/ refer to themselves with whatever language makes them most comfortable, when reflecting upon their own journeys. But still, are entirely women— if they are aligned with being entirely women (since there are trans women who may be demigirls or whatnot! who may consider themselves trans women, but not binary trans women). But, as a blanket statement, trans women are entirely women. The rhetoric, claiming they are “males in women’s spaces”, etc etc etc, are not actually solely derived from “proximity to men”, “having a connection to men”. Rather, a prevalent notion is that they are “incorrect women”. TERFS like JK Rowling have this same direction of rhetoric to trans women, as they do to infertile cis women. Many trans women are shamed for “having a penis”, despite the fact that, while it’s completely okay to have a penis as a trans woman, still get this hate, even if they have transitioned to having a vagina. Trans women get shamed, and intersex women get shamed, and cis women with bushes and “outies instead of innies” get shamed, and these points go back to misogyny. And trans women and trans men get shamed specifically for being not cis, as a common denominator. A lot of trans women’s unique struggles and discrimination is fueled by misogyny, not being associated with men. I’m not saying that doesn’t exist too, I’m saying, that’s where a whopping portion of TERF rhetoric spreads to. Not because of being in any form of the same association as men. Misandry does not exist, TERFS hate trans women for being “incorrect” women.

Bisexual women do not have this outstanding, unique link to men, or isolated attraction to men, at all. We are hated for being “incorrect” women. TERFS who hate on bisexual women for “being traitors!!1! for being attracted to men!!1!” also idolize straight women. There is literally this video describing that in mainstream Chinese sapphic culture, bisexual women are seen as the “bottom of the barrel” and that TERFY lesbians, who are a mockery of the many amazing lesbians who exist, would even prefer straight women to bisexual women, and believe me this occurs in way more vicinities than China, regarding faux sapphic culture. Straight women are not scapegoated the way bisexual women are when it comes to TERF ideology; attraction to men is not the crux. Rather, it is monosexism and misogyny. Cishetnormativity, and then monosexism, are the defaults. Bisexual women are not cishet nor monosexual either, and this is a part of biphobia. Too many ppl do not “understand” bisexuality, and think monosexuality is the only “true” outcome. Back to my main point, bisexual women face the same discrimination that “slutty” women do. Bisexual women get shamed for this assumption we as promiscuous, as women do, due to the patriarchy. Misandry does not exist, TERFS hate bisexual women for being “incorrect” women.

!! Everything above goes especially to trans women of colour, and bi women of colour, and disabled trans women and disabled bi women!

THE COMMON DENOMINATOR IS NOT MEN!! Misandry does not exist! I see wayyy too many ppl in queer spaces, claim that “man hating has gotten so bad durh hurh, trans women and bisexual women get hated on for being associated with men; misandry has gotten so out of control, that bisexual women and trans women are now experiencing men hating too”, no. Straight women are spared from biphobic TERF’s treatment. Any cis women with non stereotypical feminine traits, receive hatred that is also part of the same vein of hatred towards trans women.

Stop prioritizing hating on TERFS for “misandry!!1!”, and keep hating on TERFS for hating women. Bioessentialism is horrendous of course, but that doesn’t mean you get to equate trans women and bi women to “extensions of men” in your fight against TERFS. You have to be against both bioessentialism, and the specific woman hatred in transmisogyny and bimisogyny.

So the bi woman with a boyfriend will be especially inflated and treated as villainous (rarely any demonization of the boyfriend, actually, the burden is on the bisexual girl). No accountability or reflection is needed as a white, cis, or skinny gay person because you are the default. You don't need to prove your place in the queer community or be treated as harmful because you are the first two letters, and nothing can change that. I have come to realize that most queer people, including bisexuals themselves, view bisexual women's place as conditional and dependent on what they can do to please or serve them. It's why this complaint of us not being in community enough is so prevalent; meanwhile, the loudest preachers of that don't know the first thing about being in community with bisexual women. They even complain and act like it's an inconvenience when we use statistics to show we are an extremely vulnerable group, because how dare the LGBTQ community show solidarity to the B of the acronym? It even gets misrepresented as us saying others are the reason we are abused to dodge accountability and avoid having an honest conversation about how bisexuality is actually viewed, even in these "heterosexual" relationships.

I feel like many people are scared to point this out because it would be admitting to a hierarchy present in the queer community for as long as we could unite together and call ourselves that. When you have this idea that bisexuals are more privileged and accepted, asserting that bisexuals are treated less in the queer community is seen as an insult. But once you deconstruct how queerness shows up and is punished or praised in heterosexual society from a perspective bigger than just "same gender oppression," the picture becomes clearer. Learning about biphobia and monosexism and how to address them is integral to our well-being.
