Short animation shows 100 years of architecture evolution in Czechoslovakia. It is a story of large housing complexes, individual vs collective styles, political influence on architecture during the century. Journey starts in Bata's ZlĂn, continues in Ostrava Poruba through the story of Most city, building of PetrĹžalka in 70s, VelkĂĄ Ohrada in 80s and ends in contemporary suburbia. It is based on book â2x100mil.m2â by Martin Hejl & Collective, which is the main exhibit of the Czech pavillon at La Biennale di Venezia 2014.

In 1692 an artist known only as âA. Boogertâ sat down to write a book in Dutch about mixing watercolors. Not only would he begin the book with a bit about the use of color in painting, but would go on to explain how to create certain hues and change the tone by adding one, two, or three parts of water. The premise sounds simple enough, but the final product is almost unfathomable in its detail and scope.
Spanning nearly 800 completely handwritten (and painted) pages, TraitĂŠ des couleurs servant Ă la peinture Ă lâeau, was probably the most comprehensive guide to paint and color of its time. According to Medieval book historian Erik Kwakkel who translated part of the introduction, the color book was intended as an educational guide. The irony being there was only a single copy that was probably seen by very few eyes.
Itâs hard not to compare the hundreds of pages of color to its contemporary equivalent, the Pantone Color Guide, which wouldnât be published for the first time until 1963.

Untitled (Woman smoking cigarette), gelatin silver print
Life may be compared to a piece of embroidery, of which, during the first half of his time, a man gets a sight of the right side, and during the second half, of the wrong. The wrong side is not so pretty as the right, but it is more instructive; it shows the way in which the threads have been worked together.
Arthur Schopenhauer
