Peter was walking after dark, the door of a cafe closing behind him. Aunt May was worsening. The doctors kept talking about experimental treatments, but they could barely pay the current bills for chemo. Between staying up doing shifts, taking classes, and defending the city, Peter could barely sleep. When he could sleep, it was in the uncomfortable hospital chairs. This was too much for a fifteen year old. Uncle Ben normally would be helping but a dead man can't help from the grave. But hey, you do what you have to do, right? Anyways, Peter takes a sip from his fifth cup of coffee in the last three hours, debating on if taking a hit of his joints will help him relax when he bumps into someone. “Shit, I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking.”

“You seem like you have a lot going on, it’s okay.”
She lowers her voice.
“You dropped something.”
the kid panics, trying to stay calm, "yeah, you could say that"
The kid is confused before he realizes what fell and his eyes widen "shit-"
“Quick, pick them up.” Lina murmurs quickly dropping her papers as a cover.
He quickly dashes to shove them in his bag, hidden underneath the red and blue suit that has become familiar to him, "thanks..."
“No problem.” Her wedding ring catches the light, emeralds flashing green. There’s a gold charm bracelet, with the logo for the Xavier school hanging from it.
She picks up her papers and gives him another smile.
“Take a deep breath, you look like you need it.”
The kid freezes at the sight of the bracelet, having heard of that school in the passing but never actually meeting someone from there
"yeah, I think I do, im not sure"
She tilts her head curiously at him, then holds her hand out.
“Lina Lehnsherr-Barnes.”
He carefully shakes her hand, "Peter, Peter Parker"
“You look like you need someone to listen to you Peter Parker.”
"that would be nice, I guess"
“Want a coffee? I’ve got some time before I have to pick my son up.” She offers gently.
"yeah, that would be really nice rn"
“Okay.” She pats Peter’s arm.
“Ever been to Doris’s? It’s an ancient dive but best chocolate chip cookies ever.”

“It’s on the next block?”
"I may have heard about it then, from kids around the area"

"I would, it's not expensive is it?' Peter is already doing the math on how he can spread twenty bucks for the rest of the week

He quickly dashes to shove them in his bag, hidden underneath the red and blue suit that has become familiar to him, "thanks..."
“No problem.” Her wedding ring catches the light, emeralds flashing green. There’s a gold charm bracelet, with the logo for the Xavier school hanging from it.
She picks up her papers and gives him another smile.
“Take a deep breath, you look like you need it.”
The kid freezes at the sight of the bracelet, having heard of that school in the passing but never actually meeting someone from there
"yeah, I think I do, im not sure"
She tilts her head curiously at him, then holds her hand out.

The doctors kept talking about experimental treatments, but they could barely pay the current bills for chemo. Between staying up doing shifts, taking classes, and defending the city, Peter could barely sleep. When he could sleep, it was in the uncomfortable hospital chairs. This was too much for a fifteen year old. Uncle Ben normally would be helping but a dead man can't help from the grave. But hey, you do what you have to do, right? Anyways, Peter takes a sip from his fifth cup of coffee in the last three hours, debating on if taking a hit of his joints will help him relax when he bumps into someone. “Shit, I’m sorry.
