Despite the idea that it was made clear that Marinette still has feelings for Adrien.
They never clarified that directly through Marinette (I don’t count the stammer, sorry, not sorry).
They did that in the form of posters, her friends, etc.
They didn’t have Marinette react to Adrien in any way. She reacted very casually to the girls suggesting that he could be in her house.
They didn’t make Adrien the basis of her decisions like they would’ve done in past seasons.
Instead, they showed us a girl who was genuinely trying to be in a relationship with Luka as well as balancing between the tons of responsibilities she has on her plate.
Yes. She still has feelings for Adrien.
But…she’s also trying to move on, and she’s trying to be a good superhero, a good guardian, and she was also trying her best to be a good girlfriend despite all that was happening.
And in the end, the Lukanette breakup wasn’t primarily because of her feelings of Adrien, it was because she wasn’t ready, that she had a lot on her plate, and she needed time.
This really depicts that Adrien isn’t the basis of most of her decisions anymore, that there really has been a shift in status quo.
Even though, most of her life is being overwhelmed by most of her responsibilities, her newfound attitude to learn how to move on and accept change is a step forward for her.
After all her mistakes and shenanigans in previous seasons, she’s finally starting a new path ahead, and it doesn’t disappoint.
The point of the episode wasn’t to throw the Lukanette breakup in our faces, it was to illustrate that both Marinette and Luka aren’t quite ready for a relationship.
Luka with his familial tensions and Marinette with her own responsibilities. It’s not the right time. They didn’t permanently end Lukanette but they simply told us…hey…things are too complicated for anything right now.
