"Consensual, but still weird" is underrated in toxic freaky shipping world. There are many ways you can make it weird while still having everyone agree to it
They consented but at what cost
Japanese BL is PAYING ATTENTION
I've been asked about "Black Republicans" and Black conservatives and how to go about them before, and I keep emphasizing that there are conversations within and outside of our community about that. But it usually comes down to class. Every community has an upper crust, a bourgeois, that often sells out for the sake of itself. Does not mean we get to be racist about them, because race and class are still deeply intertwined. But it does mean that their experiences of race will be affected by their status differently.
I say this to say:
"For example, African American neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin S. Carson Sr., the chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, has devised innovative surgical techniques that uses sophisticated understanding of the brain, maintain a therapeutic focus, and incorporate informed consent. His successful innovations at separating craniopagus conjoined twins (Siamese twins who are joined only at the skull) and employing hemispherectomies to quell life-threatening epileptic seizures have restored health, not mere docility, to an entire generation of children."
This is the exact same Ben Carson that was a Trump cabinet appointee. Brilliant enough to come up with life saving techniques in neurosurgery, a testament to his people's contributions to medicine... A Trump Republican. Mentioned in the same chapter of the book discussing the historic mistreatment of Black children in a white supremacist medical system.
Okay. So! We see how 1) we are NOT a monolith, and 2) how your position may vary based on your own access to wealth and power.
OP: The weather is unbearably hot, but running the AC all the time leaves me weak. Any solutions?
Cnetizens: Get a winter melon, lie on a bamboo mat and cuddle it to sleep.
OP: Hereâs my experience from last summer. Temperatures in Shanghai stayed above 35°C through July and August last year. I almost never turn on the air conditioner at night, only run a fan. Waking up soaked from the heat was pretty normal. Then I roll over, and my arms and legs touch something nice and cool. Itâs not that sharp shocking cold that makes you shudder just really pleasant. Whatâs more it holds a steady cool temperature. No matter how long I hug it, it barely warms up. Once my skin moves away from its surface it cools down quickly again. It regulates itself surprisingly well. You donât need to worry about it turning lukewarm.
Pros Great at keeping a constant cool temperature energy-free totally silent thick rind means it lasts a long time up to three months multi-purpose you can even hold it while doing squats or use it as a barrier so you donât roll off the bed. Cons Youâll reek of vegetable odour after sleeping all night with it. You canât eat it afterwards. Donât get any ideas about turning it into a stuffed winter melon bowl. Donât ask how I found out. Itâs really heavy. Getting it home from the market is tough and throwing it away later is just as much hassle. The inside turns completely mushy watery pulp so you have no choice but to dump it. (cr æèŸ°ć€§æ”·ééŁć»)
AC and electric fans can be found in nearly every household across China, yet not everyone likes keeping the AC running nonstop. Some people with extremely weak constitutions cannot stand air conditioning at all, nor can they bear constant airflow. Thatâs why people have come up with all sorts of ways to beat the heat.
Winter melons are 96% water. Their surface stays several degrees cooler than the surrounding air, so sleeping with one in your arms is basically hugging a natural cold water pack. As long as the rind stays intact, you can use it all summer. Just watch out for ruptures â if it splits open, all the liquid inside leaks out. Using winter melons to beat the heat has been a folk custom in China since ancient times.
Thereâs also the zhufurenç«č怫äșș(literally bamboo lady, aka bamboo wife), a similar popular cooling tool. Itâs a hollow cylindrical cage woven from thin bamboo strips. Air flows freely through its gaps, carrying heat away nonstop.
Chinese people had plenty of other clever ways to stay cool. In 1978, the bronze jian fou was unearthed from the Marquis Yi of Zengâs tomb in Suizhou, Hubei. Dating back over 2,400 years, itâs Chinaâs ancient version of a refrigerator. Ice went in the outer vessel, and wine was stored inside the inner container.
The Tang Dynasty had cool pavilions built next to water. Waterwheels channeled cool air indoors. Some even pumped water up to the rooftops to create artificial water curtains. The cooling trick relied on waterwheels spinning fans paired with flowing water.
By the Tang Dynasty, plenty of icy treats already existed. The most famous one was su shané „ć±±, an icy dairy confection. Modern researchers have worked out its general recipe. First, heat dairy cream until it nearly melts and turns soft. Drip it onto a plate to shape it like rolling mountains, then store it in an ice cellar to freeze solid.
Song Dynasty people enjoyed frozen drinks too. Records of the Eastern Capitalâs Dreams documents summer treats sold in Bianjing, the Northern Song capital.
Cold treats grew far more diverse in the Song Dynasty. Historical records show that as early as 962, the third year of the Jianlong reignâthe exact timeframe featured in Where Winds Meetâthe imperial court set up the Bingjingwuć°äșćĄ(Ice Well Service), an official department dedicated to making cold food for summer relief. Every summer the government handed out these icy delicacies to officials to help them beat the heat. Booming Song Dynasty commerce gradually made cold drinks accessible to ordinary people, and the variety of icy treats available to civilians expanded greatly. Documents note three major cold drink shops operating in Kaifeng, capital of the Northern Song, selling a huge range of refreshments including bingxue(icy snow), cold congee soup, licorice decoction, preserved papaya, fresh papaya, chilled lychee paste, golden tangerine balls, snow foam spleen-soothing drink, elsholtzia beverage, perilla drink, cold rice wine drink, soapberry syrup, sweet soybean candy, mung bean water, brined plum drink, jiangcha tea, Wuling San herbal mix, Dashun San herbal mix, lychee cream and snow foam plum wine. The most common cold drink back then was bingxueć°éȘâïž, comparable to modern ice pops. In winter Song people filled bronze basins with water mixed with sugar, sometimes fruit juice and plant gel, and left them outdoors to freeze solid. These blocks were then stored in ice cellars. The following summer they would cut the frozen slabs into chunks or carve them into animal shapes such as dogs and foxes to sell at cold drink shops.
Street vendors also sold frothy soybean drink, pear juice, plum syrup, ginger honey water and papaya nectar. The menu rivals todayâs trendy bubble tea shops. Vendors set up stalls everywhere â at street corners, alley entrances and bridge crossings.

Happy that people are smashing flock cameras i just hope it doesnât stop there and people put up the same resistance when they try to regulate it into safety features
Fancy smart cars track you. Pings to satellites for gps. Your paired smartphone streaming music
In the usa backup cameras have been required on all new vehicles starting in 2012. More and more features require internet to work, including potentially life saving services. Can the driver call 911? Can the car alert medics to your location? If the driver needs help what should the vehicle do?
Itâs easy to see how âalways available 911 serviceâ or âautomatic crash detection with locationâ could be argued as mandatory safety features. Even gps could become required
So maybe bike to that meetup without a phone
The reason Flock cameras became a flashpoint is because they are vocal about being a third party selling your location, and they are building easy to search collections of data. Could a subpoena surface cell phone pings and a spotty web of cameras to general show where you drove? Yes, but that takes effort and a legal paper trail. This is a net catching all who pass, allowing the data to build patterns, where the patterns become the source of legal action, instead of searching for information relating an existing legal matter
Flock cameras are uniquely bad, but are just a single star in a horrible constellation of data mining
not just fancy cars but almost all newer models:
Mozillaâs latest edition of *Privacy Not Included reveals how 25 major car brands collect and share deeply personal data, including sexual a

New fun Tumblr tag/reblog game: what is your favourite Giant Statue? Specifically statue, not sculpture. Any material, anywhere in the world.
For example: this is the Genghis Khan equestrian statue in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia! It is 40m/130ft tall! It is the tallest equestrian statue in the world! And it FUCKS!
Note: there are people in this picture around the base to really understand the scale here. It's MASSIVE. I love it.
I simply must go to bat for Big Apple
Look at him! He's twelve meters (40 feet) tall! His name is Mr Applehead! He can allegedly hold 650,000 apples (and look at that face I trust him implicitly)! You can visit him and buy pies and cider!
these are really fun to do ihbsjhd [youâll probs have to open these to read the text]

Performance art is good and listening to people who don't understand art talk about performance art is a unique type of torture.
Which is probably a thought that could be the core of a pretty fun, masturbatory piece of performance art.
Oh. Oh actually. Actually.
Okay, so the name of the piece is "It's what you make of it" and you have a setup that's a cross between a zoltar fortune-teller machine and a crank penny press. The room the piece is performed in has a warning about recording the performance and cautions the viewer to only interact with the piece of they consent to being recorded and photographed.
The artist is in the box, made up as a marionette and the viewer can use pulleys and switches to position the artist's limbs and to change the background and lighting of the box and can type a short prompt for the artist to repeat and act out verbatim.
The viewer has to drop a token (provided as part of the piece) into a coin slot and work a crank to complete the prompt. While the artist is acting out the prompt, the prompt is printed on a photo strip that includes a picture of the prompter (taken by a hidden webcam on the booth). One copy of the prompt and photo is spit out along with the cranked token (which has the phrase "it's what you make of it" and an image of a clown pressed into it) for the viewer to keep, one copy of the prompt and photo is spit out inside the booth where the artist can collect it after completing the prompt.
What the artist is going to do with the photo strip is not explained, the artist doesn't speak or move except as a response to a prompt.
People will prompt the artist to say "this is stupid." People will prompt the artist say explicit phrases, or to swear incessantly. People will prompt the artist to say slurs.
And they will walk away with their prompt attributed to them with their photo and a coin they used their energy to mint into a reminder that the art is what they made of it. And their creation is documented in the hands of the artist as well. What did they put into the world? What did they decide to say when they had a chance to say anything? What were they comfortable saying before they realized that someone would quote them on it? What did they make of it, and how would they feel if their photo was attached to their prompt in a book or video or somewhere that people might see it?
How did they approach the piece? How would they approach it a second time?
Also the artist goes hog fucking wild on the prompts. They're acted out *loudly* and melodramatically with as much emotion as the artist can put into the performance.
And whenever the machine is not in motion the artist is still and vacant, but the performance of the prompt involves as much eye contact and emoting as possible.
The piece is dead and meaningless until you approach it, and as soon as you start interacting with it it should become disconcertingly alive with your intention.
That sounds like an actual, literal nightmare I had as a kid where I fucked up giving instructions to a mimic-biological construct and didn't say anything b/c I didn't want to get in trouble and the construct was killed for not following the instructions correctly.
I absolutely would never want to be put in a situation where someone couldn't refuse my orders.
Well. Clearly as performance it it works already. I need to go drink of a cup of tea about this to stop being upset. I'm sure it would also make other people feel things they perhaps didn't realize they were going to feel.
