Due to their lengthy time underground, their eyes are nearly blind, and they rely on their sensitive antennae to get around their elaborately dug tunnels. During their final nymphal instar, Nincada surface to complete their final molt. The resulting Ninjask that emerges has powerful wings that allow for high speed flight; however, the wings must dry off after emerging, making them temporarily vulnerable.

#290.52 - Under rare circumstances, the final molting of a Nincada can result in an additional, peculiar Pokemon. Most commonly seen materializing from captive Nincada, a Shedinja results from a Ninjask’s discarded shell gaining sentience. Possessed by spectral energy, the discarded shell undergoes minor, rapid changes, before ceasing to move again. These Shedinja are capable of levitating, possess an entirely hollow body, and do not even breathe. The shell will not move if observed, with the strange ‘evolution’ process only happening once they are no longer being monitored.
