Lazav took the form of a twink just to show off to the MtG Arena players
Purchase
Lazav the Sluttyfarious confirmed
This makes me laugh
Jace seems cool, for Nahiri I wonder why warrior and not ally or kor or anything else
Honestly Jace seems like a worse Jace Beleren but with the upside of kicker for later on. It is a fair trade off. Nahiri seems decent as a standard 4 cost planeswalker that makes tokens and then does something else. The card advantage is really limited and the -3 is strong but for a build around deck. I kind of hate that they are front-loaded with no ultimates. I liked how planeswalkers mechanically were payoffs for going long but these are just tempo cards.
Nahiri will be interesting in Standard, because that first ability does, indirectly, translate to a free equip, even though the creature equipped doesn’t have haste.
Now, Jace.... I think this iteration is way better than it looks, especially if you are generating a lot of mana/infinite mana, since you create an arbitrarily large number of Jace’s, plus, you literally grab whatever card you want from your deck. 3 mana is pretty sweet, and it’s certainly not a broken planeswalker, but I think it lacks the thing that most planeswalkers need to be good, being ways to protect itself. Ultimately, I think time will tell if new Jace is good. With reliable big mana in formats, yes, without, no.
Regardless, grabbing Jace for Aminatou!
Misread kicker as multikicker on new Jace. It’s.... not as good as I though.

“Vibe check!”
-Our goblin warlock casting power word kill on the mid-boss
Place your bets now on errata companion rules text
Alright, who had “Companions will get a commander-like tax to get added to the hand?”
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/june-1-2020-banned-and-restricted-announcement Not the worst way to deal with it. Definitely guts how incredibly efficient the cards are at overtaking games and instead turns into kind of flood protection or something that really has to be planed around with that hefty investment. It really comes down hard on Gyruda combo decks since their plan to count to 6 is much harder when they have to count to 9 or take a turn of development off and then be susceptible to hand interaction. I like it, the difference of 3 mana for a card of the same effect is astronomical. It might have been too harsh for most other mechanics to add a 3 mana tax, but those cards break such a fundamental part of magic and really did need some heavy restraints on them. I just hope that we never see something like Companion ever again outside of a supplemental product of some sort and much less raw power and instead having synergistic power instead. Also in Standard news, that is a good change. God standard looked absolutely miserable with Fires and Agent of Treachery (often cheated out) existing.
The monocolor commanders from Eldraine were super underrated
Because they were cards that reward certain decisions and deckbuilding choices rather than being raw value engines or combo enablers. You can’t expect cards that are designed well to compete with cards that are vomited out with a text box that is a checklist for the Commander meta and that have mana costs tailored to be in 3 colors to simply allow for broader use of staples.
While grumpy it puts to words what I feel works as a commander, something that rewards the strategy without needing to be central to it.
I want all my decks running like chickens with their head cut off.
There is a lot of elegange in a self contained strategy that the commander rewards but is not central to, but there is also something beautiful in a deck that is so finely constructed of unorthodox parts that the only phrase that comes to mind was the description that the LRR crew had for one of it’s jokes: “an Ikea Gun.” If it works it had to all fall into place and really make a spectacular mechanism, but otherwise was such a far fetched idea that the game played out as a bunch of coggs barely rotating on twisted axels sometimes constructing other contraptions that you had no idea were a possibility. In my opinion most legendary creatures nowadays feel more like a they want to lead a box full of grenades. Just toss them around and as long as one of the pins falls out then there will be carnage. It just feels a bit too easy to get to a board state that 10 years ago was only the result of a 3 hour long game that involved as many shots of alcohol as a Cabal Coffers tapped for.
You know, it’s still Mono-White, but I think Linden is actually a pretty decent commander. While white notoriously has the worst Ramp/Draw package, if built soul sisters, it actually checks all the boxes that allow white to draw cards (ie, Mentor of the Meek and Dawn of Hope), and can run all the usual artifact ramp. Ultimately, I think that it’s actually one of the best Mono-white commanders available.
The same applies to Torbran, but for red. Simply put, it gives the red burn so much more value, making burn a viable strategy in Commander.
If anything, I think Gadwick is the most mediocre of the bunch, but still allows for some interesting deck building options for people who want a deck that can tap down their opponents field.
In the end, I really feel like card like Urza and Kinnan, while very good, just drag down perfectly viable commander options because those(and quite a few others) really disincentivize simpler, less degenerate lines of play.

When you look at these next to each other, power levels really stand out.
To be honest.. I'm not even sure which one you think is more powerful.
Whirlwind of thought will be consistently good, giving you just absolute gas. Sure, song of creation does more, but has a somewhat powerful downside. I feel like after the turn you resolve it unless you "storm off" you're likely to fizzle out. I think you have to build more centrally around song of creation.
At the end of the day I think they're both fantastic.
Song is way more explosive, in theory, but Whirlwind will be considerably more consistent. I think, at the end of the day, a deck has to be built with Song in mind, where as Whirlwind is good in just about any spellslinger deck that can run it.
That being said, drawing two cards for cast spells is insanely good and has inspired me to build Temur Storm.
fur, tooth, and claw: rise of the muppetborn
@xeduo
!!! AT LAST. MY KIND.
So I showed muppetborn to my D&D group and this is the result.
isn’t this essentially what a dungeon master is at its core
I think this is the funniest onion headline bar none

okay here are my thoughts about what magic shoukd do to your life expectancy based on 0 official d&d lore and written 100% on gut instinct
if you're a good or even decent wizard you can live notably but not outrageously past your race's usual expiration date; nothing more than an extra half a century at most.
druids that get really at one with nature enjoy greatly slowed aging and tend to go full cryptid after a few centuries. the only thing that really threatens them outside of monsters and combat is the something bad happening to the land they're bound to.
if you're a sorcerer you're either getting an extra century or dying young in a ball of fire; there's extremely little in between. you're an engine that produces magic, dude, things happen.
paladins and clerics are a little more robust and healthy than the average person, but ultimately age the same as any other especially healthy member of their race. the gods don't care much for fiddling with the natural progression of life and death, it makes them squirrely.
for warlocks it's going to largely depend on your patron and the nature of your relationship, but you're mostly in the same boat as sorcerers. you made a dude with a being beyond our mortal comprehension, dude, things happen.
if you willingly decide to be a bard you're not adding a single second to your life expectancy and may in fact be drastically decreasing it if you're going to use being a bard as an excuse for being an obnoxious jackanapes.
had a weird idea for a D&D item. feel free to use this if you’re interested!
[id: creation of a dnd item based on those little finger dinosaur things - the plastic ones you place on your finger and which have open alligator mouths and two long spindly hands. Here, they’re called Finger Buddies. A red one smiles wide as it sparkles. A yellow one, seated upon the ground, looks confused as it looks to where it should end. Then, it pulls up their torso to reveal newly crafted legs and feet underneath! The legs are black and equally thin to their arms. A blue Finger Buddy gleefully cackles as it steals a coin - pretty much the same size as it - and runs away.
The description on the image reads:
Finger Buddy: Tiny Magic Item, unaligned.
Armor class: 5 Hit points: 2 (1d4) Speed: 5 ft
Strength: 4 (-3) Dexterity: 16 (+3) Constitution: 5 (-3) Intelligence: 6 (-2) Wisdom: 5 (-3) Charisma: 3 (-4)
Invulnerability: When a Finger Buddy drops to 0 HP it simply becomes a toy again, unless its body is completely destroyed.
Actions: Bite, Melee attack: +1 to hit, reach 1ft. (one target) Hit: 2 (1d2+1) piercing damage.
A further description says:
Finger Buddy: Magic Trinket, Rare:
These small colorful finger pupits can be brought to life for 24 hours using a single drop of blood. Once animated, the Finger Buddy is loyal to the caster whose blood was consumed. It can comprehend and follow simple commands such as Retrieve, Explore, Attack, etc. It cannot speak or write in any language but will communicate via small grunts and squeaks. If one caster activates multiple Finger Buddies at once, they will operate as a Swarm.
